He was set free on the scene, before the full investigation did not take place. A police chief stepped down due to how the case was handled.
In case you werent aware they let him go on the scene, therefor they presumed him innocent before all the facts were properly gathered. Good luck convicting a man of something he was found innocent for, even if incompetence caused him to be set free. I have no conspiracy theories what so ever. A man was shot, the police half assed their job and a man was set free before due process.
Like i said shit happens a kid got shot, it sucks but you can't go back and change it whats done is done. Its just bad the way it was handled and everyone acting like it was handled fine is delusional.
Who exactly is acting like it was handled fine? One person's head already rolled and they haven't even gotten into the meat of the investigation.

I find it hard to believe no homicide detectives ever showed up on this case. You guys are acting like he shot the kid and walked the fuck home.
I would imagine that if the cops arrive on the scene and one guy is laying on the ground dead and the other who is part of the neighborhood watch is busted up bleeding after they got a call about a suspicious person walking through the neighborhood that they were probably inclined to believe what the shooter says.
Zimmerman shouldn't have interfered with Trayvon Martin and just let him go about his business. But you also can't get too pissed about a guy wanting to protect his neighborhood, one that has had multiple recent robberies.

Before you jump down my throat and call me 'one sided,' I am not. I understand that I don't know all the facts, I understand that there is a chance that Zimmerman taking the life of an un-armed teen EVEN AFTER THE FACT that he called 911 and they told him not stop following him. ()
_______________
You don't even have the story straight. He did stop following him and went back to his SUV. That's where he says Martin confronted him.....NOT the other way around.
I don't know if his story is true, but that is his story. At least get the information correct before tossing barbs.
If that is Zimmermans story than that is straight up-bullshit.

Number 2 is the only one left and it clearly indicates force with force. There have been no reports to indicate zimmermans life was in danger or that he was in danger of serious bodily harm. Hence he cannot use deadly force.
__________
More assumptions. So the lack of a report proves your point? There are still items that haven't even been reported.
I get your point man and you seem like a smart person, so i'm sure you know people are convicted or set free on assumptions such as this all the time. Everything I have is from news stories.
The facts that I have lead me to believe that the shooter deserves some type of punishment. However that is for the court system to decide if it ever happens to get to that point. Unfortunately he was set free on the scene so I think we have to live with the judgement made by the police officers on the scene. In a case as grey as this though the man should have been taken into custody though, after that point if he was set free or jail does not matter to me. It would be enough to know the police at least investigated the issue and took a man into custody. Talking to a man on the scene of the crime is not custody. But ehhh whatever like i said no point in beating a dead horse, i'm just happy anti-gun america didn't come out in full force for this one.

You might be right about the nature of the wounds. But I don't think a report has been released.
Zimmerman said he was going back to his SUV when Martin approached him, said some things, and then punched him. You're going to use "common sense" as a way to say there is no way possible it happened the way Zimmerman said it did?
I don't want you ever serving on my jury.
Listen, he could very well be lying. And his injuries might make it impossible for people to believe he thought his life was in danger. But stop with the assumptions.
Have you even listened to the police phone call?
Zimmerman is clearly stalking Martin and had been for QUITE SOME TIME. Stalking him for so long that Martin takes off running. Zimmerman then leaves his SUV and start running after him ( you can hear him breathing heavier and wind). The dispatcher then goes are you following him and Zimmerman replies YES.... The dispatcher then tells him that is not needed and Zimmerman says Ok but then continues to follow.
And you are taking Zimmerman's side when he has been in trouble with the law before and his dad is an ex judge or something. I am sure Zimmerman has never been taught by his father what to say and what not to say when you get in trouble.
And why do you believe Zimmerman's take and not the GF of Trayvon who was on the phone with him while the whole incident took place?

quite a few people in this thread, and all over the internet. Unfortunately.....
That post was not directed at you. It is very clear you are in the middle and accept the fact that the police didnt handle the situation well and are not ready condemn zimmerman as the story doesn't quite add up to zimmerman being guilty.

I understand that they would be inclined to believe what Zimmerman said, but it's not like this was a 30 minute process that people are portraying it to believe. I can guarentee you the cops investigated it at the scene and there simply wasn't enough evidence at the time to arrest the guy.
I'm in no way saying that he was a hero like the original poster said, but I still believe someone is innocent until proven guilty. This guy now has to go through life living with this bullshit, because people like Earthwake and a few others have the notion that a man is guilty until proven innocent.
It was an unfortunate incident, but it makes you think on how one little altercation can end your life.

Zimmerman should be convicted of manslaughter even though I do not think that he intended to kill anyone, he made some serious mistakes and is the root of the death.
This story should have never made national headlines the way that it has. There are far more important things going on in this country than this that no one is hearing about like the 50 people who got shot last week in Obama's home City.
The only reason why this story got big in the first place is because the moron scalabrines of the News Media thought that Zimmerman was white.

What exactly was he not guilty of when cops arrive. I'm sorry did he not shoot a man to death? No matter how you slice it you are guilty of something when they arrive on the scene. After gathering information on the scene they deemed the guy innocent.

So there you go you made your decision he's already guilty.

obviously he was guilty of manslaughter. You can be guilty of something and then found innocent as well as be innocent and then found guilty.
He committed manslaughter a crime he was guilty of when cops arrived on the scene. You can commit manslaughter be guilty of it and then be set free because it was in self defense. Being convicted of a crime is what really matters.

No this story is lingering because nothing important has happened since then.
Are you kidding me?
No white man(or Hispanic White man) pulled the trigger in this one, so it got pushed under the rug as the media is still trying to salvage that Zimmerman has some Caucasian blood.

So guilty until proven innocent is all I'm hearing from you. He can also still have charges filed against him if they find the evidence. I think people in this country take the rights they have a little less serious then they should, but don't worry this country is heading in the direction you want it to be.

Oh please this happened before the zimmerman case was thrown into everyones face nationally.
Also this is many many incidents tied into one news article, im sure most bad neighborhoods could compile a list like in a wknd if the cops actually showed up to report said crimes in those areas. I honestly don't blame them for not reporting crimes in parts of detroit and other bad areas in inner city neighborhoods.
When the crimes venture out of the bad areas and get to the good areas is when people take notice.

Yes because saying one can be guilty and found innocent just like one can be innocent and found guilty is me saying guilty before innocent for all. Yes lets imprison everyone on circumstantial evidence and not let them free until the can prove their innocence.
However in this case there is pretty clear evidence that a crime was committed and the person should be found guilty. He was innocent til the cops showed up and found a dead body, at which point he could later be determined innocent and not convicted of manslaughter.

The evidence is obviously not as clear as you think it is. A month after the fact with all of the public's outcries for "justice" the man still hasn't been arrested. What does that tell you about the clear evidence the police have?

I think it's pretty much safe to say that everyone has already made their conclusion on this topic which won't be swayed unless new evidence comes to light(which I'm sure there will be), but to arrest a man on suspicion that he might not be telling the truth when they have another witness corroberating his story is just absolutely insane to me.
