Because, even for the Vols.. that's just an insane amount of points in a conference football game, and for the style you have to realize Tennessee will attempt to play the rest of the way in SEC play to keep taking beatings like the Gators just laid on them.. They will try to churn the clock in games and play defense, sort of like FCS teams when they play big schools, not really attempt to win games so to say, as much as just trying to keep the scores not as bad by not doing that and slinging it around.. Saturday night they tried it all, failed onside kick, goal line defense after giving up 40 from about 50 yards out to try and get a cheap stop, and instead it broke untouched to make it 47 points..
They will need to keep the clock running as much as they can to get out of this season in games alive, and it can also actually keep them in games by mucking it up and making them sloppy, slow paced, and Time of Possession on their side.. much like Muschamp has always done, and played Defensive ball first, and running the ball a lot. Remember, they are now going from the spread to an almost full out pro style down hill run style attack.. Which is still unbelievably ignorant to me, you just simply can't win or even compete in the SEC with that brand, unless you have the horses.. They are doing the opposite of what Arkansas is doing, from style changes on the offensive end, and as you can see.. it's massively backfiring for both schools and they are just now getting into the front end of SEC play, their schedule is absolutely brutal, BRUTAL the next month and it started last week.. I almost feel sorry for their situation
Also, their new scheme on defense takes awhile to learn with all the ins and outs, they are running Sabans defense and trying to implement the 3-4, and that defense is very hard to put in and learn in just about 7-8 months or so of the time he's had to insert it into their program.. look no further than the first year of Kirby at UGA, and the massive difference from their D from year one, to last year and moving into year 3 this year, and they are sort of learning again in many ways with so many new bodies on their defense this year.. You can say the same for Muschamps defense running that same Saban brand, year one at UF, went 7-6 and had many problems, next year with almost the entirety of the same personnel back for year 2, and went 11-1.. Same with Saban at Bama in 07 etc.. the examples go on and on, even to Muschamps 2nd stop at South Carolina, to how FAR they've come last season to this one as well...
