I think Machado´s bat is good but awfully overrated. In another pitcher´s park he will have similar numbers to those posted with the Dodgers. Probably a below .850 OPS.
However, that D!!
It was certain that he was going to go to the Padres but I never understood this move. The Padres have solid prospects both at SS and 3b. They make a horrible move for Kinsler (who sucks) at 2b so it would not make much sense to bench him now. Anyways, I hope they start Urias at 2b, Ty France at 3b and move Machado to SS... fck Kinsler. But since baseball managers are retarded they probably will end up benching either France or Urias.

It is unfair to label managers retarded when they have owners and GM's that insist on "playing the money". Not all starters or regulars were chosen by the manager. Most often, if the owner is paying some guy a lot of money he expects to see him on the field, and the GM orders that in order to cover his own arse, since he is the reason they are paying that player a lot of money.
As to how much Machado is worth, or it is an intelligent signing, I don't think so. It is true the Padres play in a pitchers park, and one that is also a lefty favoring park, both for hitters and pitchers. The Hosmer signing is flawed in that Hosmer is a left handed hitter, but is also a spray hitter that goes to left center quite often, so you don't get the full advantage you would with a left handed PULL hitter. Machado, as a right handed hitter is another guy that will not take take advantage of park personality. I would bet that in that park Moustakas would have been a better, and more economical, choice. As for pitching, I guess (like many Covers posters) they figure it just doesn't matter, but when lefties come into that park and shut them out, how can they ignore it? jmho
