Luis Severino and the Yankees have agreed on a four-year, $40 million contract extension, avoiding salary arbitration. The agreement includes a club option for the 2023 season, and covers Severino's four arbitration years, plus one year of free agency if the option -- valued at $15 million -- is exercised. The option has a $2.75 million buyout, and Severino's physical is taking place on Friday.
If I had to make an educated guess, I'd say that Severino garnished the highest odds of any pitcher last year on average. The guy can pitch. Good signing
Also with some playoff experience under his belt he may just keep it together mentally on the hill in those big games to come.

Well, now he's rich and will live in a beautiful city with a great climate.
Winning is secondary
Can't argue with that line of reasoning, but that only proves his lack of character, especially competing wise, i'm just glad the Yankees passed on him.
Also San Diego is a great place for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NERXer22e3E

The MLB will use a pitch clock this spring...Also they are throwing a horrible idea out there...new rule proposition that a relief pitcher must face a minimum of 3 batters Bruce Bochy will retire after the 2019 season. Good guy
I understand the league wants faster games. I can see both sides regarding pitch clocks and the 3 batter per reliever minimum.
But I lean towards don't change.
Maybe no pitch clock but let an off field ump time it and if a pitcher is going over 25 seconds a lot maybe give a verbal, "speed it up buddy". Just imagine being a pitcher, a super mentally challenging job as it it is and then to have a clack in your face? That is going to change a lot. That could change a Cy Young contender to mediocrity.
As far as the 3 batter minimum that breaks a lot of strategy.
I think it might be better to limit the total number of relievers allowed in a game (5?).
As if managers didn't have enough ulcer inducing malarkey to deal with already.

They better not change a thing Barney. Yea they want faster but the crap they propose could actually be counter intuitive.
Let's say we have a high leverage situation, late in the game, it's tied and the manager's are playing chess with lefty/righty matchups.
Proposition #1, 3 batter minimum:
2 men on, 1 out, lefty at the plate, the manager calls for a southpaw to face the left handed bat. He gets him out. Next batter is a righty who destroys southpaws. The manager can't go to the hill to make the switch. Single knocks 1 runner in. Bases are juiced. The pitcher is now rattled but he has to face another batter...
Has the game sped up at any point here?
Here's food for thought: How many starting pitchers would get jipped out of a W because the manager can't use his bullpen traditionally?
Proposition #2, pitch clock:
We are in the same high leveraged situation in the game. This is where catchers and pitchers make EXTRA sure they change signs and are on the same page as to keep the runners at bay. Yea it takes some extra time. There's more meetings at the mound. (And these are the nuances that make baseball beautiful imo). Now they go through all that "extra" caution. Oh buy wait, the clock is down to 3. Hurry up your delivery, just throw the ball the fans are getting board. Pitcher is nervous and most likely will walk the batter.
Did the game really speed up here?
Keep baseball the way it is.
I listened to a fangraphs podcast yesterday where the dorks were talking about moving the mound back in the future. I literally wanted to puke.

The agreement is for a record $300 million over 10 years, with an opt-
out after five years and a partial no-trade clause.
How will he walk in that club house earning such a ridiculous salary?! I wonder how the other guys will look at him, especially if he wont produce...
By signing first, i think Machado screwed Harper's chances of getting something like him, i don't see any team matching what Machado got, for Harper.
Also, if Machado gets 300 mil, how much should Trout get?! 500?!
Watch the man take a third of what these pricks are/will get, just because he wants to go to a good club and win. He could of raised his voice a million times with the Angels but politely stayed quite and just did his job. That organization has been fumbling for so long.

Did a little bit of research, so Trout is signed through 2020, money isn't an issue, as he is already making 33 mil/year, but he will be 29 when he hits FA. Now the question is, will he remain in Anaheim? Because money won't be an issue, the Angels will probably hand him a blank check and rightly so, he is the best baseball player out there and worth every penny, but i don't see the Angels giving him, at least the chance, at actually winning something.
It would suck, for such a tremendous talent, to not have an opportunity at winning a WS...

The New York Yankees today announced that they have signed OF Aaron Hicks
to a 7-year contract extending through the 2025 season, with a club
option for the 2026 season. This contract replaces his 1-year contract
for 2019 that was announced on Jan 11.
For that money, this is a great deal for the Yankees.
