According to radio host Rich Eisen, one MLB exec recently told him that there is a rule being discussed by some in the game that would basically cause a riot. It goes like this: In the 9th inning only, the manager of the trailing team would be allowed to send up any three players he wants for the first three at-bats of the inning. It doesn't matter where a team is in the batting order during the game. The coach can send up anyone he wants in any order for the first three at-bats in the 9th.

Who keeps coming up with this stuff. This is as dumb as putting a guy on 2nd to start the 10th inning. Don't tamper with the game, just speed it up some.

MLB has a survival problem and they’re very well aware of it. When you’re forced to have sub.220 hitters and pitchers with ERAs above 7 in starting lineups on a daily basis, you obviously are having a hard time finding talented players. Kids have been playing soccer and hockey in place of baseball for many years and it’s caught up to them. Ten years from now, this sport will look nothing like it does now. Many teams won’t be able to survive.
Look, I love this sport as much as you and spent most of my childhood playing it, but I don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.....

So let's say the home manager makes all the right moves...pitching changes, pinch hitters, double switches, mound visits(wtf...) etc...
They are up 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th. The manager and the players did what they needed to do to get to their closer.
Wait!! Hold on!! Here's a bone road team, bat who ever you want in the 9th. Guess what? Mike Trout just ended the 8th innings with a warning track moon shot, fractions of an inch away from being a home run. I think he should lead off the 9th.
F*cking ridiculous
This better not even come close to seeing the light of day

Sorry
LC, but I couldn’t agree less.
Old
timers like us may disrespect much about today’s game but that doesn’t put it
in danger of extinction.
The
population of the world has doubled since our youth and the game, along with
basketball, has gone world-wide. It is played in almost all countries and is
very popular everywhere.
Youth participation
has never been higher, and they enjoy better facilities, training and coaching
than we ever dreamed of. Nutrition and health are far better.
I will
grant you, today’s game is different, but it appeals to the attention deficit
X-Box Play Station generation that is its future fans. They are normally turned
off by a pitcher’s duel, even a true work of art and example of masterly
control, so the powers that be are giving them what they can understand and
appreciate. Single, double, home run, let’s go home, the parties over.
Revenue,
gate and TV contracts have never been higher, and the Auto Makers and Beer
Brewers are not pulling the advertising dollars. The game itself is in great
shape. In ten years you and I will probably be extinct, but the game will go
on, for better or worse.
What
some sports fans do not realize is that the game in trouble is American style
football. It has not caught on anywhere else and is under justifiable attack
here at home. More knowledge of concussions and head injuries is coming out
daily, and the news isn’t good. As the world learns the protective equipment is
not at all protective, fewer and fewer parents are supporting the sport and equipment
manufacturers, schools, coaches, and youth organizations find themselves with
greater legal liabilities and insurance rates they can’t afford.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

Fair points, Key. I still disagree about the participation part. I live across from a park that has 3 baseball fields and the only time they are occupied is when there’s an organized game with uniforms on. If that’s the only time you play the game, you’ll never be any good at it. If you’re a weekend golfer, you’re never getting on the PGA Tour.
When I watch the Hall of Fame inductions and see all the players sitting in the background that I watched play this game, I know it will never be the same. Things have been so bad that they are now considering putting the druggies in the Hall because there’s nobody else worthy. You’ll never convince me that having sub .200 hitters in the lineup makes the game great. The quality of today’s talent is eroding on an annual basis. I don’t buy the revenue part either. World Series ratings have been on a decline for many years. Good luck if you continue to try to handicap it. To me, it’s become unwatchable.

Also, Key, if everything is just fine with attendance and revenue and the interest in the game is as high as ever, why are they considering all these proposed changes? Answer: Because they realize the future is bleak.

This is a tough debate - not the original proposed rule that is somewhat probably a pipie dream and click bait to the article but....
MLB is dying? I'm older and think this is somewhat true especially seeing so many empty seats in so many games last few seasons. But according to revenue numbers MLB has never been more profitable.

Key, just read your post in another thread about people bashing MLB, so I re-read your response to me earlier in this thread.
What good are better facilities, training and nutrition when you don’t know how to run the bases, lay down a bunt, hit the cutoff man...?
Where’s the better coaching you speak of? Teaching them about launch angles and exit velocity? How about teaching them the fundamentals?
Either you’re in total denial or I overestimated your knowledge of the game. That response sounds like the one we get in here from the kids that “today’s players are bigger and stronger...”
Like that matters. If that meant anything, there would be no need for the juiced ball.

Who or what to to believe? I'm not sure.
Revenue numbers are up only due to an increase in ticket prices. But attendance is down.
Also, revenue by itself doesn't determine profitability. It just represents total sales dollars. You then have to factor in all the costs of sales to determine +/- profitability.

well MLB network packages have to be one of the reasons revenue is up at over a $100 for a season.??????
