Wow I must say I don't think I have seen this much honesty on the internet . You really laid it out . That I have a lot of respect for , most people you on the net would just lie and fade away with there tail between their legs.
I think this shows that you have a good head on your shoulders and you learned a good lesson . I enjoyed reading your posts and picks, and wish you the best in life.
And i would also like to thank you for signing up to defend this country in the military . That takes a quite a " pair " .

Wow...don't even know what to say. I'm sure there are a LOT more of these stories out there than people write. It's crazy what gambling does to people. Sorry to hear that story and hope life goes well for you. Good luck with it.

Crack isn't the worst addiction sports BETTING is...See you later tonight as I'm sure you won't be content only playing with Monopoly money...If you want to drop the habit you must drop everything that comes with it such as researching games and involving yourself in Forums like this...This will only highten the allure of what could've happened if you BET....Then you will start BETTING again... IMO

One person asked, "If your friend was so good, why didn't you always play his picks?". My friend is rather superstitious and would not share them with me. He would not tell me what he was betting on, including if he was betting against me, until the actual games had already started.
Another person mentioned that I will be unable to bet with only Monopoly money. This is also untrue. It is very difficult to bet or buy anything when you have no real money, and no means of getting anymore. I have a feeling this whole situation is going to get rid of my true addiction: smoking.

I have been down that dark hall before myself and it wasn't pretty, I used to make money then bet it all, and lose it all, I felt like you that I am 100% unlucky in betting, I lost a bit then cut back to no bets for 3 years, it was hard then I started gambling again and now I am in a groove, but we all know it can and will change at any waking moment, good luck in your life and I hope you find the happiness that you need and deserve.

Yw and remember 5k is a small price to pay for such a valuable lesson.
This is the best quote, if you are truely done forever, 5k is a very small price to pay, and the best thing about this forum, there was only one asshole who had to make an ignorant comment about another man in the military with bad judgement. Aside from that asshole, we can all feel your pain, and Im sure most of us hae been there, I know I have, and have lost so much time and money to gambling that i'll never get back, but Im glad to see you able to walk away. And you couldn't hae said it better, than if you're going to bet, offshore is the way to go,betting on credit is a sure way to adding fuel tothe fire for most of us. I know I couldnt handle it.

I would suggest leaving completely, bc if you start with monopoly money and get hot you will realize you could be winning and be tempted to get back in the game

Ok Wels, heres the deal. Your situation is very easy to fix. You may lose your friend for awhile, but the reality is, how good of a friend is he if he allowed you to place bets like that, knowing you had no money, no job and no way to pay back the bets that you were placing????? He must not be too smart of a guy, I apologize for the bluntness of that but its true.
You claim you placed bets through a friend on credit. You say you lost five stacks. Assuming all of that is true, ask your friend to see the bets on the website. If this bookie is worth his left nut, he has a website that the wagers are placed at and therefore should be viewable. Its important, because your friend may not have placed the bets at all, or placed them up to a point, and then started booking them himself. Technically you are still on the hook for them, but its better to owe a friend than a bookie. If he didn't book the bets with the bookie, I would tell him to go fu#k himself. Only because of the fact that he knew you had no cash and took your bets anyways, then allowed you to run up that kind of debt. In my opinion that is the lowest of the low. Anybody who would do that is not really a friend. Bankers destroyed the economy using that same type of lending.
If your bookie does not have a website, then hes small time and harmless. He is used to getting burned and will bug the shit out of your homie but wont do anything. The true reality is, bookies dont break legs anymore. Its too dangerous and too risky. They will want their money, but they also know that you cant squeeze a rock and get water. YOU should contact the bookie directly and explain to him the situation. Chances are he will work a deal with you and you can pay him over a long period of time. Bookies are businessmen, not muscle. They dont want any problems. Their reputations as guys that will damage you, is what makes people pay them, that and of course, wagering is an honorable mans game. You win, you get paid. You lose, you pay. But, that would allow your friend to be free and clear, and you in control of your money, what little of it you have. He cant do anything to you. Dont fear him. Under no circumstances am I advocating you stiffing the guy, but dont kill yourself to pay him. Do it under your terms, and when you can. I have an ex-friend who lost $275K, no lie, and told his bookie to go fuck himself. To this day, this guy lives in a very astute neighborhood making $350K annually, and is well and healthy. I hate him, because it was my bookie, and I set him up with the guy. My bookie tried to get me to pay for it, and I told him to suck my c%k, no lie. I told him if he ever called me again, I would call the police and turn over all his information to them. What was he gonna do? It totally sucked and I had no idea the guy was running up that kind of debt until I got the phone call. If only I would have known, I would have faded his ass into me being into a very large home.
Gambling is not an activity that is honorable at all. Even if you pay on time, get paid on time, always lose, or always win. Its pure slime. I dont care what anybody says, any type of wagering is a way to separate a man from his earnings through hope and manipulation. Bookies get stiffed, winners get stiffed, shit happens. Under no circumstances should you pay the guy until you have the cash, or a portion of it. If it takes a year, 2 years, 10 years, whatever. Dont hurt your future, also dont use my tax money to pay that piece of garbage.

First off, BOL and you can still follow it on paper to refine your techniques to see if you can be a consistent winner.
Second, make a deal with the book. He will take a deal because he has already got back what he laid out plus why would he want to lose. He is in the service industry so he will know the value of relations. I certainly wouldnt pay vig or anything.
Third, you learned a great lesson early, dont chase. not doing that in and of itself will make it close to breakeven for you. PLus, chasing is a bad proposition in life.

WOw. Very interesting thread. From the sounds of it, you are probably reaching your 20's. Just to let u know man we all been through that shit hole tunnels. I have had numerous friends that make your 5k seem like chump change. But i know its not.
Had one friend, lost like 125k when he was 18. Books went to his house, parents sold property and paid. And u know what happens after that, he was still playing. lost even more. So the only way was to tell him to sign up for military services. so he did. Serve in iraq 2 rounds and back already. Saved up about 40k. Then when happens. when he was back, lost it all back plus more. Long story short, he wish he could have quit when he was just down, a couple of grand. Now he is in even a bigger shit hole.
Lesson to you, young person, is you can play for fun with online account. Not credit. Or just quit......
to me 5k is a cheap learning experience. be greatful.
Oh yeah, I agree with slip..... Your friend is probably booking u.

When I first began reading this, I wanted to flame this guy. But by the time I was finished, I truly feel sorry. I have an addictive personality but you have a serious one. You might want to get that checked out. Eventually you have to be strong enough to walk away. What was it Deniro said in Heat, "Never become attached to something you can't walk away from in 30 seconds." Definitely rings true in this case. I applaud you for vowing to pay the bookie back. Unless he's some sort of mafia guy who can track you down, I would have skipped down and said f*** it. Best of luck in the military and for the most part, most of us regular guys will probably one day or another have to quit the gambling business. Sorry your day has come!

Hey wels you are lucky it was only a 5 pack. I actually about 10 years ago went thru 80k in a mutual fund in 5 months time.I am just an avg working guy too.I'll never be able to recover that type of loss.Yet today I still play but on much smaller levels. If I can grab a dime here and there its like a lottery hit for me.Generally been staying between 200 to 500 per week one way or another.Best wishes my man.
