Teams are families. You can bet your behind none of those guys are losing sleep because one of their teammates took a political stance. These are hockey players for crying out loud.

Agree or disagree with the stance, that's your right. But don't pretend you know how it affects the ONLY people who matter here, his teammates. That's just ignorant.

IF HE WAS SO AGAINST THE GOV'T AND THE WAY THE COUNTRY IS RUN, HE SHOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED FOR TEAM USA AT THE OLYMPLICS, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN ALOT EASIER. THEN HE WOULDNT LOOK AS BAD THIS TIME AROUND, WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED HIM NOT TO SHOW UP AT THE WHITEHOUSE.  JUST MY 2 CENTS.

I'm hearing a lot of people talking about how this was a team function and politics or political affiliation should've had nothing to do with his decision.  Sorry people, it doesn't work like that.  Once you mention the words White House ,and President of the United States of America, this "team function" becomes political.  He was there for his team when he helped them win the Stanley Cup last year when he played his behind off on his way to winning the Conn Smythe trophy as well.  I could be wrong, but isn't freedom of speech in the US Constitution???  What hypocrisy!  The guy stands up for what he believes in and gets thrown under the bus in the process.  Whether you agree with his opinions or not, we as a society need to be more tolerant of others beliefs and opinions.  We already have enough war in this world.

He should have said that 'NO CONTROLLING LEGAL AUTHORITY HAS EVER VERIFIED THIS MAN'S ELIGIBILITY TO OCCUPY THAT OFFICE".

I would have preferred that he take the Luke Scott route.

They were there to have their accomplishment recognized and honoured by their country. The President happens to represent the country, but there's nothing "political" about the visit.

Thomas was being a dingus and had to know that he'd end up being a distraction and overshadow what should have been a great moment for the team.

WHO GIVES A FLYING darn?

Talk about a meaningless subject....Whooped Dee Fuckin Doo...TIM ( 1 year wonder ) Thomas has decided that he is more important than celebrating a Stanley Cup with his teammates and with the American tradition that American Champions visit the White House when they travel to Washington.

SPOILED MILLIONAIRE fool lose sight of the real world!

Cheers MOFOs.

TT earned a lot of respect by making this tough choice.  Surprised so many disagree with his decision.   We obviously know this issue goes deeper than what was said, but good for him, it's his decision. Case closed, move on.

Their accomplishment was already recognized by their country.  I'm pretty sure it happened on 06-15-11.

Most players close their eyes to the real world, yes.

If TT had his eyes closed and followed the company line then he would have went to the white house.

Being Canadian, maybe, my perspective is different but this was more or less just a photo opt. He stayed true to his beliefs by not doing something he would never do out of the public eye.
I really doubt Obama would give him the time of day if he went to the white house.

And back to my original point WHO GIVES A garbage?
