1. Rajon Rondo: This seems like such a reactionary pick, but Rondo’s put together one of the greatest playoff runs by a point guard since Magic. And he’s done by hitting maybe five jump shots. It’s truly amazing, because when Rondo was at Kentucky, I gave him no chance to develop into an elite NBA point guard. Boy, was I wrong. I can’t wait to see him go up against LeBron.
2. Deron Williams: It’s hard to pinpoint a weakness in his game. He’s underrated defensively and his stats were better than Rondo’s during the regular season. But his team’s out. Rondo’s is still alive.
3. Derrick Rose: Along with OKC’s Russell Westbrook, Rose is the most athletic of the point guards. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him at the top of the point guard totem pole in the near future.
4. Steve Nash: Remember when Shaq ridiculed Nash as the NBA’s MVP? At the time, I thought he might have had a point. But Nash continues to prove just how good he is. None of the above are better running the pick and roll. And Nash can out-shoot them blindfolded. He’s definitely lost a step, though¸ and was among the league leaders in turnovers.
5. Chris Paul: Tough call here. Paul will have something to prove next season, after missing a big chunk of the year with a knee injury. At 6-foot, he’s the smallest of the group, which eventually might catch up to him. Still, when he’s at his best, you can put him up at the top of the list. Westbrook and Tyreke Evans are knocking at the door of the top five. Veterans Jason Kidd and Chauncey Billups deserve some props, too. But for right now, those are my top. Agree? Disagree?

Paul will definitely be on this list if he can come back healthy. Devin Harris deserve to be in the discussion?
Jason Kidd doesn't deserve props anymore would rather have Goran Dragic over him at this point. Chauncey I'd say is close. Tyreke Evans is definitely going to be knocking on the door.

i think you can throw up those top 5 in just about any order and make a case for it...
something to consider... people are down on Rose and CP3, and high on Rondo, DWill and Nash right now... but i would point out that Rondo, DWill and Nash are all playing on competitive teams with good to great chemistry... and Rose and CP3 are in some seriously sorry situations...
i think, if it were possible to level the playing field... i would take, in this order: 1) Rose, 2) Rondo, 3) CP3, 4) DWill, 5) Nash
i realize Rose is still young and doesn't shoot as well at times, but you can say the same about Rondo, and i think the overall package that Rose brings is like nothing anyone has ever brought at that position before... even CP3, when asked what PG keeps him up at night before a game, the first one he mentioned (in a long list) was Derek Rose...
like i said, you can make a case to flip that list top to bottom, literally, and it would be hard to argue... even for me...

Nash and Deron are hands down better PGs then Rondo. I personally feel Nash is so underrated. He is one of the toughest guys in the NBA and has the heart of a champion.

Yea! If Mark Cuban the know it all premadonna, would not have traded him, and I know there was more to that huge trade, that he just did again bringing in theis "nucleus, I guess! But, Norwistki is a great basketball player and making 35-40 regularly, leading score, Dallas needs a guard like WADE? Spend the money Cuban! But I know he probably has not given it a thought with 2 more years on Kidds contract! If Norwistki, had a point guard that could shoot the three and drive and dunk, Dallas would be a favorite next year! Norwistki oughta give up some of his 21,000,000 like Aikman did to make room for Deon Sanders! I know they are friends, but they should be able to get his money owed with trading to someone needing anveteran that could maybe get them there are close ? Wade would go to Dallas! I think! Enough cash! In my opinion! No Championship with Kidd there!

if it wasn't for CP3's injury season this year, he would still be the best. It's sad what playing hurt one year does to someone's rep. If you go back and look at the numbers, CP3 beats Deron Williams in pts, rebounds, assists, steals and fg and ft percentage per game before this injury season.

I love Dwil my self, but just hate that paul is getting no respect, such a slap in the face. Hopefully Paul gets back to normal next season and gets some decent players on his team.

i need to reconsider my list... Rondo on a given night may be the best... but on a nightly basis, he is too inconsistent still...
Rose, CP3, DWill should all be ahead of him, until Rondo gets a more developed and consistent offensive game... particularly an outside shot... Nash's experience probably gives you an edge today, but that on a daily basis that gap is closing fast, so if they are a toss up right now, it is only going to swing in Rondo's favor...

I hope that Rose is number one on this by 2012..but for that to happen he needs to commit on the defensive end. Also, there is no reason he shouldn't average 1.5-2 steals a game. (he averaged .5 this season)..Let's go Rose, step it up if we are ever going to win a title agan!

I can't say Rondo is the best point guard at the moment. He is a great player but he has 3 hall of famers on his team. I will give Rondo his due b/c he is a great player but I wouldn't say hes the best. Here would be my list
1. D Will - He was the only player that really step up on this injury plague team. His speed and jump shot IMO is better than any PG at them moment. All I can say is the rip the nuggets and without him the laker series wouldn't have been much competition.
2. Nash - What can I say this guy is out there to win. Bloody nose or having one good eye boy has a heart of a champion. Only bad thing i can say is he can turn the ball over a lot.
3. Chris Paul - Surround him with decent players not the crappy players he has now and they would contend. (This is if he is 100% healthy)
4. Rondo - Great player without a doubt. Only reason why the celtics are in these series. His all around game has improved but still has to improve his free throws.
5. D Rose - I love this guy. His team sucks but he manages to do everything for his team. Get him a supporting cast and his team def go far.
I rip and I rhyme I rhyme and I rip. This is da way dat Dylan spit

I agree! So which one show up tonight! He played a lot of minutes, although he is a great athlete! If Wade had been on a consistently winning team, and the injury, he could have at least one more ring! Jemeir Nelson has his moments too?

RONDO is the Best all around Guard. He may not be as good of a shooter as Paul,Williams,or Nash etc.But he will end up on the list of one of the best barring a serious injury.

This thread reminds me of how GM's screw up drafts so much. There is a concept called sample size. People who are now putting D. Williams and Rondo in their top 3 almost certainly did not put them in those spots in March. I say almost certainly because I'm going off my gut. I could be wrong about a few people. This is how the Raiders ended up drafting Russell. It's hard not to judge player production/potential from the last thing we've seen. That being said it's certainly not smart.
FWIW My top 5 are: 1. Chris Paul big gap 2. Nash/Williams/Rondo/Billups
Yes, D. Williams is a mismatch and made Chauncey look awful but every player has that guy who is not necessarily better than them but they don't match up well with. Chris Paul looked awful against Billups last year. Rose routinely puts up great numbers against Rondo. They are not in the same league yet.
Another example of that would be Ming owning Howard over their careers.

MAN I TAKE DFISH!!!!!!! LETS SEE 14 YEARS IN THE NBA WORKING ON HIS 5TH RING....HAS PLAYED IN 7NBA FINALS IF THEY MAKE IT.THIS YEAR...AND CAN TAKE A CHARGE LIKE NONE OF THE ABOVE.....LOL.....JK....I WOULD HAVE TO GO WITH WILLIAMS AS THE BEST PG...PUT HIM ON THE LAKERS AND WE WON'T LOSE EVER AGAIN.......

1. D. Williams.. dude is unreal, has everything that you want in a point guard w/ no major weaknesses.
2-5 is up in the air as there all really close.. It's tough to compare, because out of this group there isn't another one that has the total package & no major weaknesses. Rose, Nash, Rondo & CP3-- It really is an elite group of point guards.. Harris' name does need to be thrown in there tho, because he is an absolute stud on a real sorry team..
I don't think you can consider Rondo the best, because the dude can't shoot-- he more than makes up for his lack of shooting, because of everything else he brings but can't be considered the best if you don't have everything in your game.
Rose is def. on the rise & i love his game, Nash has the purest jumpshot of any point out there & better than most of the 2's & 3's in the league-- Westbrook on the rise... Honestly there are a group of 7-8 guys that any squad would be lucky having...
If i had one point to start a franchise w/ right now it'd be D-Wil hands down.
