ok i know there is no games till tuesday, i am sad and really want to cap a game. i knew i loved sports from a young age, and when i was old enough i knew that if i learned all i could about them, i could one day make money betting on them, and that was the way i began my journey into this wild thing we call gambling. so today i started this post for 2 reasons, first reason i have never, ever missed a day on covers since the first time i started with the threads, and would give anything to have a game tonite, and the second reason, to ask a simple question to all of you. what does sports mean to you?and what does being able to bet on them do for you? here is my answer i love sports with all my heart from the very first time i was young and saw the players on tv, playing baseball and football and basketball and even soccer. so i watched and finally when i got old enough to play , i knew i was good, and i dont mean professional good, but good against guys my age and older. bottom line i excelled in football and baseball, and i loved every minute of it, until one day i stopped. not sure how or why but i stopped playing in the leagues and only played in the neighborhood. but always getting better and playing against the bigger guys, and at time it was tough but in the end playing with them made me better because it made me tougher, and i went on the play high school baseball and football, i was a starting pitcher and wide receiver and cornerback in high school, them one day i got a break ,a friend of my family came to one of my games, and said he thought maybe i could play college baseball, 2 years later i was at a div. 1 school playing college baseball and didnt make the football team. the main thing that taught me was just cause i didnt make it, to the big leagues didnt mean i was a failure. so i went on to begin my career in the communications field. i worked in radio a few years off and on, but loved every moment of it, but sports was always calling my name, too bad i couldn't be a sports agent or a good job like that, but we all know life doesn't work like that, unless you put the time in you get results, so anyway back to my life story here, then one day out of nowhere i meet a beautiful woman, i know its hard to believe huh>
but i must have wooed her with my kind heart and funny personality. so i moved to texas back in 2000. let me tell you all one thing being from the east coast, near phila, pa. you go out there to texas and you do stand out, well here is the deal i saw alot i mean alot of games nba, baseball, thats why when baseball season begins your going to see sammy in that thread every day making plays, i learned so much by living in texas and seeing all those games each day, ok here is where i made my first bet, i was working at an all night truck stop diner, the 3rd, shift, as in the grave yard shift, and it was rough, well a guy came in every night he worked for the railroad, see the guys worked on the trains going back and forth each nite, and came to sleep at the motel and have supper at my diner, well one guy his name was George strated talking about sports and time went by and the guy knew his stuff about baseball, and i was talking to him about football, well he bet on games, and one night he said" hey sammy do you know who won the rangers game tonite? texas rangers guys ok, and i didnt know cause i was working serving food to the people, but he came in the next night and said sammy i won 200 bucks! i was like wow cool, how did you win the money? then he told me about gambling, now you might think wow your a 20 something guy, and you never bet on sports, no up until then i havent. so he told me and boy i was hooked. i made cash waiting tables and then used to dough to bet games. and boy i was really good, too good in fact, my girlfriend at the time was wondering why i made so much money at the diner, she lives in the town and she knew it wasnt that busy each nite, besides the weekend, so i told her, i bet and made money, she wasnt happy and told me to stop, i was not feeling what she was saying to me, but i did respect her wishes, i was in her house, time went by and i wanted to bet so badly it hurt in my gut and even in my heart, i never felt this way about something, i thought hey if i am good at something why cant i do it and be successful, well 4 years later i left texas and i did give George alot of good advice that time but i knew when i got back home, i was gonna BET. to this day i love and miss her dearly, and will never forget my time there. when i got home it was like i was all alone in this wild scary world, and i didnt know what to do, or where to go, so i went to live with a family member, and i got a job, and once i got my first check, you guessed it, i asked a guy at work and he told me i could bet with his friend, and i was hooked, i made good money not alot of it but enough to keep going and feel confident, long story short betting a game to me is more than getting paid, or beating the man, i do it to see if i can out smart the books and test my self to see if i can determine who will win the game or cover the spread. so today with nothing to bet on, member i stink at cbb, and hockey, so till tuesday i will be sad, my question is what does sports mean to you in life? and what does betting mean to you? and please don't say, "to win money" I need a better answer than that, ok guys the floor is yours.................0
