I really like your write up you make a lot of good points. I have a lot to learn from you. I'll be paying attention. Like the poker analogy a lot. I am a solid long term winning poker player, but i havent been able to transfer that skill set to sports betting yet. Ive been about break even or slightly losing since i started two years ago and i want to get over the hump. Thanks for the solid info.

AN13, I've taken the same approach for years. It does pay off if you can stick to only the best plays on the card. I've had the best results in mid to late season nfl and ncaaf after the books have really gotten a feel for the teams. But nice start and keep doing what you're doing.

I realized this weekend that the Tier I/II/III is not the clearest of ranking systems.
For future reference,
I = #1 bets
II = #2 bets
III = #3 bets
I try to employ some sort of pattern recognition for all my plays, and as the title of this thread would suggest, it's a purely discretionary approach. There are pros and cons to the approach obviously. The most obvious setback is the fact that emotion can play an unnecessarily large role. But to my defense, the more you do it, the more numb you become, and the more numb you become, the more able you are to act consistently.
It may not be the most reassuring answer, but it's the truth. I dont have a bot that processes and analyzes statistics or anything like that. I try to weight out many different indicators against each other at any given time, but unless I see: check #1, check #2, check #3, check #4.. I won't participate.

Can't wait to see week 2. I hope I'm on your side. Took hou -9 @ jax, which you prob dont like its as square as it gets. Also kc +3.5 @BUF which i also am rethinking, and saints -1 @Car which i still like though it begs for saint money. I need to not jump on early lines so fast without thinking about what are they asking me to play here? Now that i think about it it seems they want me to play houston and kc and possibly saints too. Hmm i guess we'll see. Maybe ill hedge em.
