Not so true, Pats beat, Miami, Denver, Jets in same season, Baltimore beat Pitt in same season 2x each, and theres a lot more examples of other teams winning 2xs this year so throw that out the window
Pats do have revenge from sb and having there 20 game win streak snapped.
Gmen have had tougher road, baltimore should of won, giants had to beat better oppenents in my opinion.
No way is the books gonna get 50 50 action on this game, impossible.
Is it possible that the extra week off just might work against the Giants? They are definitely in the groove and as pointed out Miami didn't come with their best last week. Maybe the extra week off shifts things around a little bit. I believe one thing GIANTS will come with their 'A' game and the PATS will come with their 'A' game. Baltimore looked sluggish in their TEXANS match up but won and then played great against the Pats. Who is to say that New England can't pull the same act, but hopefully with different results. It's tricky but I expect a close game. It will be a great way to end the season.

Thoughts on the over? Like it or not both teams will score...I think it can become a shootout.
This is a dangerous game to bet under. This will not be 0-0 at the half like last game.If one team gets up 2 scores or a quick score early gonna be a shootout.I also think Brady is gonna use the hurry up alot to try to throw and tire the Giant defense.I agree with Veronica if the game goes under it wont be by much less than a td.I just dont see how Eli isnt gonna score at least 27-30 pts here the way hes playing vs the NE def so i am defintetly going over the Giants total.NE will get their pts also i ma thinking 34-27,34-30

Never has a team with less than 10 wins won the Super Bowl. Never.
I hate NE more than the next guy but they'll win this by a touch. This is a perfect line especially at 3.5. Vegas knew the public would hit New York. Hell I did too at +3 (+100). Just wait for NE to hopefully hit -130 on the ML then pounce on it.
NY is the new darling of the NFL for the past 6 weeks. They've covered 5 straight and everybody and I mean everybody is talking about NY right now.
Vegas is messing with your mind. NE 31 NYG 19
everyone used to say..america will never have a black president..never

Immediately following the NFC title game, Vegas set the line at the Pats - 3 1/2. The line has since dropped to 3. Is this the mind fuck of all mind fucks? There is no doubt in not only my mind but the respected NFL insiders of the world, that the Giants should be favored here. I expected to see the Giants favored by atleast 3 points possibly more. Hypothetically speaking, let's say the line was set at NY - 3, don't you think that would bring in tons of action on Brady? As the classic underdog in revenge mode? NY + 3.5 to 3 will bring in big time action on New York. This is the strangest line I've ever seen. Eli's confidence cannot and will not be any higher than it is right now. Beating the Packers was just the start of his apex. Eli is like fucking Andy Dufresne In the Shawshank redemption. The scene where he crawled through a 100 yards of shit in a tight tunnel was Eli going through the Niners and that near hospital job beating he took. Andy/Eli made it through the tough part. The Pats defense will be a joke for Eli after what he went through with the Niners. He's almost made it now, to that island called, Zihuataneo. It took some incredible luck and fight and courage but he's almost there. This game could actually get very ugly.

Brahshaw and Nicks did not play in the first game this year and the giants won!!!!!!!!!
Its a wrap..
This is EXACTLY why the line is what it is and opened the way that it did. I read both pages of this entire thread and am going to take everything into account. Let me just start by saying that I am a huge GIANT fan. That being said, I am also a realist with my team and like to think I know them very well. I am not afraid to bet against them in the right situation. Although betting against them in the Superbowl will be tough.
It is a revenge game for Tom Brady and the Patriots. But lets not forget that this is a COMPLETELY different team both in the number of remaining players from 07-08 SB team AND in how they play and what their strengths and weaknesses are. Only 8 players are still on the roster from that SB run year. I watched the replay on the NFL network last night and the difference is incredible. At the time the Patriots had a deep threat in Randy Moss with Wes Welker working the middle with Ben Watson and had a Laurence Marooney RB who was decent at the time. They had a balance attack and that's why they broke all those records. Their defense was also ridiculous on all three levels with Adelius Thomas, Richard Seymour rushing the edges, Teddy Bruschi, Mike Vrabel and Junior Seau on the second level and Rodney Harrison, Ellis Hobbs and Asante Samuel as DBs. THIS is why they were 12 point favorites and had a perfect season going into that SB.
Now this year's Patriots still have Wes Welker and the Law Firm as starting RB. However, there double TE set also had a record breaking season both in numbers and in changing the way the game is played moving forward in the NFL and should not be underestimated. It presents a different challenge for the Giants Defense and causes huge matchup problems in the middle because whoever you double, the other TE will thrive and if you worry about both of them, Wes Welker is still Wes Welker and will KILL you. The Law Firm is underrated as well and has NEEVR had a fumble in his entire career both college and professional. Look what he did against the Ravens since they were playing the pass primarily. Their defense was ranked 31st in the regular season and that's only because Matthew Stafford and Megatron destroyed the GB defense in the last game of the season to leap frog the Pats D as the worse in the league. That being said, that got after Tim Tebow and his pretty solid O Line as well as the Ravens O Line. They are playing much better and I do not expect to see the regular season D surface again just like no one expects the Giants regular season D to come back either because they are healthier than ever.

Now let's talk Giants. That 07-08 Giants team flew through the playoffs winning 3 road games with a very questionable Eli Manning. Watching him last night, he is a COMPLETELY different QB now looking more and more like his older brother every game with his game management, audibles and overall play. Plaxico Burress was held in check all game. But we all remeber what happened. Amani Toomer had a great game on the other end due to such much attention being on Plax all game and Steve Smith worked the middle much better than expected as a rookie. Not to Mention David Tyree having a career game and Ahmad Bradshaw as a rookie looking like a beast of a player that he has become, when healthy, and a Brandon Jacobs in his prime taking over for Tiki Barber. 16 players are still on the roster from that SB team. But what made them successful was that NO ONE thought they had a chance and that's when the Giants thrive in this NY media.
Now this year's Giants have three new WRs and a decent TE in Jake Ballard when he's healthy. He should be good to go come game time. Hasn't really been much of a factor in the playoffs as he has been slowly coming back from injury. Can't say enough about the receiving corps. Possibly the best in football right now and mostly due to the emergence of Victor Cruz in the middle. Not bad for essentially a rookie (Was on IR last year after his 3 TD preseason game against the Jets-I was at that game and it was unreal) and all things considered with Giant Fans calling for Jerry Reese's head when he didn't re-sign Steve Smith. Look how that turned out? And now the running game has found themselves again minus the 49ner game last week. I'll give them a pass considering it was the 49ners. Like I said earlier, Eli is a complete QB and is 10 times better than he ever was let alone in 07-08. Not to mention the toughness he showed after the beating he took on Sunday. He is Elite and after SB46, no one will ever question that again regardless of the outcome. And the Defense is now possibly even BETTER than the Defense from 07-08 with JPP, a healthy Osi Umenyora, Justin Tuck and Kiwi. Strahan was on the way out and wasn't the Strahan of old. Enough said for the pass rush. LBs are the weak point but doing well with Michael Boley calling the shots in the middle and 1st and 2nd round picks littered all over the DB line. But the secondary will go as the pass rush goes. We know that and so do the Patriots. The pass rush masks the holes and blown coverages that the secondary sometimes shows. And if the pass rush does what it is suppose to do, those TEs (Or at least one of them at a time) will have to stay home and help block all those DEs. The Patriots will not want that type of game because although Deion Branch proved against the Broncos that he can still stretch the field and provide Tom Brady with a deep threat, he is not Randy Moss nor is he still in his prime like he was 10 years ago when he won SB MVP.

So what does all this mean in my opinion? The Giants SHOULD be favored. But they aren't. Regular season doesn't matter. Especially in todays game with all the parody across the league. Any team can get hot (Look at the '05-06 Steelers, last year's Packers and the SB42 Giants and that's all in the last 7 years) and no teams are hotter than the Patriots (10 game winning streak) and the Giants (5 game winning streak). The right two teams are in the SB. VEGAS knows all of this. And Vegas is smarter than everybody. I go there once a year and you always see more casinos being built. Construction is never finished even in this economy. There is going to be A LOT of action on the Giants either way. So if they had put them as opening favorites, even more people would be on them and there would be virtually no way for VEGAS to come close to 50/50 in the books. As mentioned earlier in this thread by another blogger, square bettors (And there is no sporting event that attracts more square, once in a lifetime bettors than the Superbowl) automatically think the favorite has the edge and bet that way. Vegas is not going to get even $ anyway because of what happened four years ago and this being a rematch. But they certainly have a better chance with opening the Patriots as favorites. Vegas is going to try desperately to get their 50/50 and they figured that this was the best way. Come game day, the line will be swung and the Giants will be favorites. There is just too much $ on the Giants for that not to happen. The Giants are not a secret anymore and aren't going to surprise anyone like they did 4 years ago.
My pick?? I already jumped all over the Giants spread when it was +3 EVEN (16 Units) Sunday night because I knew it would swing right away and it already has started too and we still have 12 more days to go. However, I do believe this line will continue to swing and I will be watching it very closely as I'm sure all of you will be as well. If it swings in the Giants favor by a point or two, I will seriously consider betting the Patriots spread and try to middle it because I believe this game will come down to a Field goal or less. If it doesn't swing completely and is close to a pick em, I will stick with my Giants as long as the percentages look fairly close. If a big majority (Over 65% are on the Giants) then I will still look at the Patriots as another bet and probably book it as well.

Maybe the fact that half of N.Y. went out and bought futures on the Giants to win it all at 100 to 1 when they went on a 0-4 skid in mid November has something to do with it ??.

The function of the line is to get 50% of the bets on each side. pats -3.5 did exactly that. Lets not forget the Pats are 15-3, how could they NOT be favored.
If the pats were +3 the whole world would bet the patriots getting points. When was the last time they were a dog? Vegas needs bets on both sides, at pats -3 you are still going to get a TON of action on the patriots.
Its also fair enough to get a ton of action on the Giants, hence the function of the line. If it was pats -7 the whole world will be the Giants. This line is EXACTLY where it should be.

Giants are last years Packers. They also had no business being in the playoffs and just caught fire. I honestly believe that it's Eli's time to add another ring just as when it was Brady's time to add the 2nd ring. Even the great Tom Brady gets rattled when he faces a pash rush. You saw it yesterday with Tom, rushing his passes and having a bad day. Brady and Rodgers fizzle under a PASSRUSH, they just do. Eli? He's prb too stupid to know whats going on, what ever it is, the guy has amnesia, just makes plays while taking a beating. Do any of you even remember the last time Brady had a big time game in the playoffs vs a quality team? Not Tebow and the Broncos. Do you? Im not being a dick here but it was when the Pats were cheating/spy gate. If I'm wrong name me the game ? He's been awful in the playoffs lately. Last years SB line opened Pitt -3 I believe. Big time action came in on Pitt but it was Rodgers and his scorching hot team who won it. I feel the same way about these Giants. Julian Edelman will be covering Cruz in the slot. It can really get ugly for the Pats. Havnt made a play yet but big lean on the GMEN and Eli Dufresne.
well i just was wondering what evidence you have that the patriots were cheating?

Line imo is right: 1. tough to beat the same team twice in one season 2. revenge factor for ne for last sb 3. ne has the better record
I love the Giants chances, but NE is not a bad team and I actually thought the line would have come out as NE -4, but -3.5 makes sense, in between two key numbers 3 & 4 for the right team. If the books came out Giants -3, money would be flooding in on NE. Books want 50/50 action.
LSU/Bama came to mind this season. Bama loss earlier in the year...Bama was a fav against the #1 seed in the NC game, won and covered.
Question for everyone....is Pats the #1 seed? or are the Giants the #1 in this matchup?

patriots a tad overrated... everyone who likes the pats just like them "because they're the pats"... "because of bellicheck"... "because of brady"... just remember what happened with the packers... a complete team (giants) playing and incomplete team (packers)... a team depending on their offense can only survive so long... patriots will put up points... but what is the point of putting up points if you can't stop the opposing team? you really need brady to throw for 4 TDs and 1 interception at BEST for them to have a chance to win

"How and WHY? Would VEGAS set the line at 3? NE Favorites."
This may help explain things...(or not ?) from a L.V. sportsbook.
There is a ton of deliberation that goes into hanging the opening number anticipating the true line, public perception, and a balanced book.
Given the recent surge of popularity surrounding the New York Giants and the buzz that always accompanies the New England Patriots there was a real struggle about where to open this pointspread.
Bookmakers speculated that the number for Giants-Pats rematch would probably be around 3.5 to 4 before the weekend. But after watching Tom Brady look human for once in his career, we were all open to change and discussion quickly ensues.
The hardest part of booking a tight game is that every half point matters and there isn’t a single bookmaker who wants to use a price that has a strong chance of landing on a push with such a large ticket volume.
Unfortunately, for a game like this, we’ll see in two weeks there was no other choice than using the 3 right out of the gate to balance things out. Now the real fun comes trying to gauge where the public will plunk down its cash compared to the professionals.
The worst nightmare for bookies with a 3-point spread is that both pro and Joe bettor will be on the same side, which would severely handcuff our ability to move the price. Hope this helped some.....
"How and WHY? Would VEGAS set the line at 3? NE Favorites."

Well, if you are so confident, go bet your fucking house on the Giants. How can anyone be a favorite vs Brady? What is wrong with you? First of all, as you saw last game, Patriots defense isn't a joke at all, on the contrary - they've played extremely well the last match (I don't count the Denver game, because this team is a joke and I won't comment them) and they made some very important stops. Anyone who thinks New England's defense is shit right now - well, he knows nothing about football. The Giants defense was excellent against the 49ers, even though they allowed 2 very big plays and really, San Francisco was the team that shouldn't be at that NFC final. I don't think that the GIants would've beaten the Saints and see, the Saints would've been like 3 points favorite vs the Patriots, but that's hypothetical. This game we have might become pretty ugly, I agree with this, the regular season game - it was 0-0 at HT. But, I think it would be a shootout - Brady was awful the last game vs the Ravens and I don't think it'll happen again. He has the 2 best TE in the league and they are weapons that the Giants don't have. On the other side the giants have 3 outstanding WR and Eli has great options attacking, so I think this game will be high-scoring and I already placed a bet on over 55. I am considering the additional totals, going over 60 with no worries - this will be a hell of a game. And it will probably go down to the last possession, so it will be sheer luck who will take the title. I think it will be Patriots who will win this game, I watched the Interview Brady gave after the Ravens game, and he literally said: I sucked today! It won't happen the next game, I promise you. I believe in him and I will go with Brady, Gronk, Hernandez and Wes Welker. But my big bet is on the over in this game. No way that over won't be accomplished.

NE is a pound of swiss cheese filled with holes. They simply can not protect Brady from the best pass rush in the NFL. It will be even worse with Gronkowski banged up. He won't be able to block as well and will not be the target hes been all year. Maybe they'll run the ball with Hernandez and he'll get knocked out.
On Defense, NE is pretty damn awful. The fact that Julian Edelman was covering Boldin at the end of the AFC championship game is pretty scary. Will he be covering Nicks or Cruz or will the NE DBs learn how to cover by the Super bowl? The Giants offense will have their way against this D. I hate how people point out how bad the Giants rushers were this year. I dont care about what happened in the season, only what I've seen the last 6 weeks. You throw in the angle that Eli is going to win his 2nd Super Bowl on Peyton's turf and this is way too good to pass up. I've been over NE since they were caught cheating and all the genius of Belichik. He's sucked in big games since then and has no advantage over the Giant coaching staff.

With that being said Giants 38 Pats 31
The whole world is still on the Giants at +3.5 and then at +3
