We're 10 days away from going live, but here's my philosophy and the reason I've decided to do undertake this concept. I really think you guys will enjoy it.
A few things happened, somewhat all at once for me that resulted in the idea. At the height of my streak picking ECU games, I would post a thread and within hours, the thread would have over 10k views. I found that people enjoyed my writeups, inside information, news articles, links to video streams, or anything else I could provide them to enjoy the game. I think at one point going into the VT game, that one single pick thread have over 45k views. It was incredible the support I was given up until that point here at Covers.
One day, some shmuck tout approached me and asked if I'd join his team (names will not be provided). I never thought of selling my picks before and I didn't like the idea of it. I turned him down (along with 4 or 5 other services) and told them I couldn't turn my back on all of these people who were enjoying the writeups. I knew that eventually, everyone reverts to the mean, ends up picking 50% if they're lucky, and the attention goes away. I wanted to parlay that support into something sustainable. Something to really be proud of, I just didn't quite know how I was going to do it yet.
As I was watching one guys stream of the ECU vs Charleston basketball game earlier this season, this guy was asking people to donate during his live tv stream. I knew he'd gone through some trouble setting the feed up and providing the game for me to watch since I couldn't get it here on local TV. I figured, what the hell, I'll give the guy a dollar. It reminded me of all the times I'd taken a trip to the airport and some clown pulls my bags out of my trunk and stood there with his hand out wanting 2 bucks for basically helping me with nothing. Ridiculous. Or the times I'd given the pizza guy 2 dollars for walking my pizza up to my doorstep, or any slew of other times I've given people a tip for helping me out for basically being lazy.
I thought about all of the incredible knowledge in our various capping communities and how I'd never been given a medium for tipping various contributors for the insight they provided me. Those guys never asked for anything. They never did, and still don't, expect anything in return...except for support from their community. Those guys...the ones who really put in the effort and helped me decide on games, did 1,000 times more for me than the clown at the airport.
At that point, I decided to create that avenue for other members like me, who thought that throwing someone 50 cents or a quarter for their thoughts was the least I could do for their troubles. Afterall, those guys were winning me money. I wanted to give back, if only a few cents. The idea was born.
My philosophy is that there are others out there who would do the same if given a slick, streamlined method for doing it. That's what I'm creating. If just half of those 45k viewers tipped me 50 cents...just for one game...think of the possibilities? I never wanted to charge anyone for anything, but if they want to give something back...sure, feel free!
We're going to bridge the gap between Joe shmoes like me and people who call themselves "professionals" who sell picks well in advance whether their picks win or lose. We're going to give people the option if they choose to give back, not force them to pay for things up front.
It will be interesting to see if it flies. I know I'm excited about the possibilities, I hope you guys are too. If you have any ideas or thoughts that we can bake into the concept, please let me know here. This is for you guys, after all.
It's coming soon, we're only a few days out. Welcome aboard the LuDawgs train. Toot-toot. ;)

Ok... here is my question for you.... how will the site pay for its expenses? How are you going to make profit off this concept?
I haven't figured that out yet. I just think the concept is cool. I'm footing the bills right now so that you guys will have a fun, unique experience. I just want it to be fun at this point. We'll figure out return on investment later.

Do you limit the amount of posters? Say I wade through 200 set of picks on a basketball Saturday. 200 players giving different opinions on all those games Some do well today and some do well tomorrow. Will you keep a running total of each pickers percentage. That's the only way you will have an honest accounting. I don't want to see some guy saying he went 7 of 8 and find that he posted his picks well after the games had gone. What happens when I tip a guy for a weeks worth of good picks and then I begin following him and he "tanks" for the next week. Does he send my tip back with interest????? History says the best cappers will be, over the long haul, around 53- 58%. I did not make that number up, I read it in a Vegas publication some years ago. That is why you have to take advantage of your winning streaks ans pull back in the rough times. TIMING, just like in the stock market, is the key!!!!

No, no. You can tip whenever you want. Hell, you don't have to tip at all. It's just that the functionallity will be there for you if you want to and it will be quick and easy to do. If you don't want to, don't. One of the rules will be that no one on the site can ask for a tip. They'll get a warning. This is not a method to beg for money.
Posters should read what they want and if they find someone who truly helps them, they can tip at that time. You don't have to tip anyone at all and definitely don't have to tip them up front for a weeks worth of plays. If you tail a guy based upon the information he gives on one game and the game wins, up to you if you want to say thanks with a quarter or whatever.
It's a very simple concept, yet so different than the way things are done today in the online capping community. I'm excited to see who buys in to the idea of it.

He makes a profit off the banner ads and what not just like every other free site...the more hits or views a site gets the more you can sell spots for it....
COVERS allows you to tell others they r sexually confused so long as your hands are clean

Ludawg, Come on man...please tell me you have some sort of an idea of how to profit. I find it very unlikely you are going setup a business such as this without knowing how you are going to profit from it.
Here is my concern as a critic. I see huge potential for you and your team to setup usernames to try and corner the market. Like you mentioned above...if you have a few hot usernames and people were donating 50 cents a pop you could make a bunch in a hurry. I don't expect you to admit it...but I 100% can see this happening.
Also how are you going to deal with things such as record keeping...bashing? Liars are a huge part of this business and always will be. Unless you have distinct rules of conduct I think you will see alot of nonsense.

UTTER NONSENSE !!! I can get the same good pickers for free just by reading the Covers Forum + I can go to other forums on the internet and get the plays of the best (professional??) pickers in the country. NO TIPPING REQUIRED.!!!!

Haha, truthfully! I really don't know what the mechanism will be at this point for money. The truth is, I don't really care. I don't know why you guys can't just accept the fact that I want it to be a fun community that thrives off of research and supporting one another for the work they put in.
The expenses are negligible. Software is purchased (relatively inexpensive annual license fees..no problem), development is purchased and nearing completion, hosting won't be a big deal.
I'll figure it out when it comes to me. I'm not going to force it. I just want you guys to enjoy it.

I can see that you have a hard time with reading comprehension. You don't have to tip at Ludawgs.com either. It's just there if you want to do it. It's not a requirement.

You have just answered the question of your success or failure. Why use your site and PayPal as a requirement to post when it's all free and easy at COVERS.

Unless its set-up as a non-profit...you are in business to make money....and there is nothing wrong with that. But at least admit it and spare us the whole we did for you nonsense.
If you don't have a profit model created your either a liar or an idiot. I can't believe your trying to sell the nonsense that you have no idea of how your going to profit. If you put no thought into it...how can you be selling people that this will work on any level?
I am trying to be open minded about this but the more I hear from you the more it makes no sense.

I just tip because a guy spent lots of time writing a losing analysis. What a crock.

If you have users and if you have traffic, a creative way to turn a profit will eventually show itself. There's no reason to try to force that for me at this point. I'm not an idiot.

I see very little positive feedback supporting your idea ????????????????????????
The only 2 posters who flat out don't support it are you and Football10, who by the way, are the same poster.
ABN missed the piece where tipping is not a requirement and the site is free. Sparty just wants to understand return on investment.
Should I take you and Football10's feedback as a barometer for whether or not the idea will be adopted by a larger community? If I wanted a random sampling of what a group of retards thought about the concept, I may have to listen to your feedback. However, I'd like to think that the majority of users in the community could understand things a little bit better than you two :)
1) Tipping is not required...ever.
2) There is no fee to join...ever.
3) The forum is free for everyone to use.
4) If you'd like to tip someone, you can. If not, you don't have to.
I can't make it any clearer than that for you. Why is this something that you (and Football10) are not supportive of? What is the downside risk for you two? Is it that you don't have a bank account to tie your PayPal address to?

Hey, I just had an idea on how I might be able to make some money. Pick winners and be helpful and just hope that someone chips in. 6 bucks per month should cover my server fees. Break even. Anything else is gravy! :)

Are you calling me and Chamblin retards because we are questioning your proposal . Like I said, I see no positive feedback for your proposal. Most of the negativism is coming from veteran and hall of fame posters. Did you ever take business practices 101. Obviously not or you would not be alienating prospective posters. I wonder if LuDawg will have his picks posted wher it will be very easy for all posters to see at first glance.
LuDawg is banking that his "picking luck" will continue so as to be one of the main profiteers from this venture. We'll just wait and see !!!!!
