It seems the TN line is moving in TN's favor down to 3.5 in some places.
We will see in about tens days, but this TN team is motivated. LY is not a good measuring stick for this TN team....not only was the schedule brutal, the key injuries certainly affected their play. But I believe the biggest motivator will be the UK loss. This was embarrassing loss for the program, the players and the coach. The coach recently took them away from campus for practices at a local college to get their mind off non football distractions...for a football bootcamp so to speak. Now of course this is the time of year for optimism, but as a TN fan/alum it has been awhile since the team has gone into the season with talent, depth, and a few juniors. (last couple of years nothing but freshmen and sophomores with the occasional upper classman sprinkled in). As far as the recnt past aside from the aforementioned UK Derek Dooley has accomplished exactly what was expected...he lost to the teams he was the underdog and won the games he was favored. This does not make him a good coach, but does not make him a bad coach...this year will be better opportunity to measure his capabilities. (he really did walk into s shit storm at TN)
The good: Returning most starters from a year ago (healthy), added Juco Receiver C Patterson (he will be the third receiver and there are many colleges that would like him as the No 1 receiver), added Juco D McCullers 6'6 365lb DT, and LB, H lathers, is returningform injury in 2010 to play along to stud sophomore LBs.
The Bad: Not sold on the running game. Need to see someone step up before I believe it...but as bad as they were last year it cantgetany worse. The hope is with 3 stud receivers and a decent TE, I do not see any team being able to cover TN man/man which will take away attention to the RBs and the experienced offensive line should help as well. I believ the biggest threat from the RBs will be catching the ball out of the backfield. I do not see a between the tackles runner on this team.
The Ugly: Special teams have been scary the last couple of years, bad PK, bad punting and the return game very spotty. The new KO rules may actually help TN to at least equalize a weakness. C Patterson, a impressive returner at JUCO, could make a big difference. But as far as the PK goes...well lets hope he is kicking XPs and not FGs
The biggest ?: How quickly will TN respond to a change in defense? converting form a 3/4 to a 4/3, but I have to believe they have a better Def Coord with Sal Sunseri then they did with Wilcox...it is just the transition, but the word is it will be a slow transition and TN will still play a lot of 3/4.
Although I am not very good at totals and I do not like to go with the over as there always seems to be then 5 yd false start drive killers, but with TN offense, ??? on defense, experience on NC State offense, and a fast turf the over seems like a good play.

And as far as place kicking goes jr. kicker M Palardy is healthy for the first time in his career and to my knowledge did not miss a fg in either scrimmage this camp

thanks for the correction on the defense...got my 3and 4 backards!
Parlody has all the talent but I will wait and see what he can do in the game.
I just wanted to point out some of the concerns on this team. Do not want to get too high on them as right now it is the dreaded "potential" that concerns me most. Need to see the product on the field.
In the end I see them as an 8-4 team, a couple of breaks and a healthy year maybe 9-3.

I agree with wait n see on Palardy, also agree on record.. but I also feel like this game could turn out to be like tenn vs cal a few years back when cal had marshawn lynch, desean Jackson, Forsett and Hawkins on offense and vols were up 35 -0 before cal knew what hit em. The motivation to win for the vols cannot be measured in this matchup and when the team that's more motivated is also more talented I'll lean on that team any day.

*I see you've got the Vol cheerleading section going again........

best of luck man........
Humble when ambitious - gracious when successful - resilient when you fail.

Do you always bleed out of your vagina this much when people disagree with you? You never forget to let everyone know how much covers is filled with cheerleaders and sheep and yet at the same time you seem to bitch and moan when people of different opinions facilitate a meaningful discussion. Perhaps conversation of this nature is just a little too much for your maturity level; it seems a little piece of your ego dies every time people don't see things exactly your way. Take a page out your own book and the next time you feel like posting don't, especially if its about this game.

NCState is returning a lot of starters on defense all but 2 I believe, including the best CB in the nation David Amerson who had 13 INT's and NCState had the most picks in the nation also. So defense will be better then people expect. The one area they were not good at last year was run defense and since the VOL's are not the best run team this should be a good matchup for the wolfpack. I think this will be a good game, so I like the points. I also like 6 pt teaser to make it ncstate plus 10 and the over...BOL
