there is a line that trayvon crossed in the process of the ass beating. You guys have to be smart enough to know the difference between beating someones ass and taking it further. Trayvon took it further and the gashes on the back of Z's head show that. And that's not taking into account what Z alleges that T said while he was slamming his head into the sidewalk.
We have some pretty stupid people in here if you don't understand the line that Trayvon crossed. I'm sure there are many people that have serious brain damage as the result of blunt force trauma. Who knows how much longer Trayvon would have kept slamming his head into the ground had he not been shot.
I believe that Zimmerman never wanted a physical confrontation from the get go. People that carry guns don't want the chance to have it taken from them in a struggle. Based on Z's previous history of calling police in similar situations with no similar outcomes.
I do agree that Zimmerman could have stayed in his car, but I also believe that Trayvon jumped to conclusions and shouldnt have started fist to cuffs...and even worse slamming his head into the sidewalk.

Please tell me you're smart enough to know the line that Trayvon crossed in the fight. I think even a guy as dumb as our favorite myspace member understands the line that Trayvon crossed.

If that's the new rule ..than Trayvon who drew 1st blood gets to shoot Zimmerman ........

I didn't hear an apology from Zimmerman for killing Trayvon Martin..what I heard was a statement of sympathy to Trayvon's family for their loss...
"I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son," Zimmerman, told Martin's parents...."I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am. And I did not know if he was armed or not,"
Zimmerman also makes a good point ...how do you know your attacker is unarmed when he say's "You' re going to die tonight, I'm going to kill you"..while he's slamming your head against the sidewalk multiple times ?

Noone, even "John" or 13r yr old kid, has said they saw T beating Z's head against the sidewalk. Only that Martin was on top & beating him up & the kid said it was to dark to know anything for sure. Not to say it didn't happen because obviously his head did hit the concrete at least a couple times & most likely T caused it in 1 way or another.
Imo this was a perfect storm situation between an overzealous guy convinced that T was guilty of something & "up to no good", needing to believe he's a "good, responsible & caring" person while seeking the approval of others, being negligent & going too far in the way he handled it & provoking a 17 yr old kid with some attitude who was alternately scared, defiant & indignant about being followed.
Obviously, at the least prosecution believes they can poke holes in Z's story but unless there is something stronger, Z will likely walk due to the asinine SYG law. But it doesn't mean he didn't create & provoke the situation & then end up killing the kid when it could have easily been prevented if handled differently.

Cashin,
I believe this is probably the most accurate statement posted here of the events that happened that night and can agree that Zimmerman does have a good chance of walking ..due to Florida laws..

I know we've been round and round on this. And I've actually flip flopped from my original opinion on who was at fault.
After seeing the extra stuff out there about Z I dont find him to be any more overzealous than I was19 years ago when I graduated from the police academy.
Nowadays people around me see me as anti authority. But, back then I learned a hard lesson.
Where I live, we've always had burgluries and thefts and stuff like that but not the hard core gang related murders and gang fights. Pretty good place to live even in the older parts of the community.
When I was in the police academy, I would keep my gun handy even though my wife wasn't comfy around guns at all. We'd had alot of shit going on regarding thefts and burglaries within a two block radius of where we lived including two 800 dollar mtn bikes that we had chained to a tree. One night, there was some noises outside that made me feel I had to do some checking out with my barretta 92F and a flashlight. I went all over my yard shinning the light and I think I even had my gun out kinda tactically searching but never found anything until I almost stepped on a plate of cookies as I was going up the stairs on the way back in the house. My wife, who knows me pretty well and knows that I'm not a hot head, thinks the whole thing is rather funny. If someone had been out there hiding, I don't even want to think of how things could have gone. This was almost 20 years ago and I am much more seasoned than I was at the time.
To me, Zimmerman had a similar but different experience. I'm sure that he's learned a lot about the experience, But, I feel he's getting a bad rap and not many people give him the benefit of the doubt about his intentions. I don't believe, and I have good reason to believe that he ever had any intention to just go shooting burgars up as you guys would like to believe.
If he really does mentor black students, why do people not give him the benefit of the doubt?...and see him as some douchebag child killer?
Anyway, I respectfully disagree with those that think like you do and see him as a malignant force on our society. I just think he got in over his head and I think both he and Trayvon could have done things differently to avoid the fateful outcome.
