what a joke.....Obamas politcal ways are now coming to full public attn and no one is fooled by his shenanigans except the way far left sheep.
Automatic budget cuts have led to reduced federal spending. Many congressional staffers have lost their jobs. I understand that cuts need to be made and the white house is no exception.
This reminds me of how tea partiers kick and scream about spending, yet complain when the neighborhood parks are dirty or afterschool programs are cut.

I agree with that Goose. They would privatize drinking fountains if they could,, Wait a minute! Geez, I haven't seen one around lately..
Guess if you can't afford a 2 dollar bottle of water, you die. But, do they care ? Noooo, Repulsicans think if you can't afford 2 bucks you are just ignorant moochers anyway.

You guys are ridiculous, the Republicans have not suggested privatizing WH tours. Obama has done nothing but play games with this sequester. His administration is playing politics with this instead of trying to cut even a penny of waste. They can't find $45 billion in waste out of the $3500 billion they spend? Really?
Instead they are trying to make these cuts seem like the end of the world and also to make them as visible and painful to the public as possible. What a jackass Obama is to do this. They let thousands of illegals go instead of just deporting their criminal fools, they are going to furlough border agents and are threatening to do the same with TSA agents to make the lines at the airports more painful.
Obama's little golf outing with Tiger would have been enough to prevent 341 federal workers from furlough. The Dems are not interested at all in cutting any waste, just playing the blame game and making the public suffer as much as possible for these miniscule cuts in an effort to take back the House in 2014. Sad and pathetic.

What staffers have lost their jobs? Please provide some back up for this.
Also, with the budget that the WH has you mean to tell me that you believe the tours of the WH are the 1st things on the list?
Its a political game by Obama and you are smart enough to know that.

supposedly there are 139 white house staffers that make 100k a year or better. I wonder how many "policy advisors" one really needs.

Of course the WH tour is a political tit for tat.
And don't tell me that the Bush's didn't play golf too.
The bottom line is the Repuslicans don't get a rats as about the middle class. You Lordy are the one who is being fooled by the repulsican shenanigans.
If you are in the middle class and vote for a repulsican, you are like a mafia informant and they are playing you for a chump only to whack you when they're finished sqeezing every fiber from your being. With them, it's all about the money.

At post #9: staffers don't have to lose jobs for costs to be reduced. Rather, responsibilities are simply redirected, which can lead to savings in other areas. I can say that white house tours are incredibly burdensome on the staff. They include extensive background checks, security detail, tour guides, reassignments of those cabinet members so they are not present (which involves coordination with their staff), actual detailed coordination, planning, and of course, cleaning and primping detail.
People are often assigned duties solely for tours so their attention can be moved elsewhere.
And yes, I am certain that some assistant and low level staffers are losing their jobs, as they are elsewhere in Congress.
At post #10: that has been an issue for years and years. All of Congress needs to look at a reduction in costs. The problem is, for the most part, staffers are not well paid. The cost reductions need to be for things like food and coach as opposed to first class fares. Let's see if it actually happens.

and dems are oh so different Don.......keep drinking the kool aid.
dj, WH tours are a part of daily life for those involved including everyone you mention. Its not like they started last week so trying to redirect the topic from a cost to a burden discussion doesnt hold any water with me. The ploy that this is where we needed tp cut right when sequestration hit is just a silly PR stunt by Obama and his cronies and its back firing on them. As long as you are certain that low level staffers are losing jobs I guess thats good enough for me.....can you say conjecture?

It actually isn't conjecture.
I can explain how each congressional office budget works if you like. Salaries are a line item and are rarely touched (and in all actuality, the overall pay if you combine all positions isn't great..but the benefits are-government job, go figure right?). This, however, only applies to full time positions.
Each office (including the white house) employs staff that are paid by stipend or part-time. These positions are paid out of discretionary funds These are the positions that I see cut. These are often paid internships. For example, the White House Operations Director has paid interns/part time positions who would help with tours. You can expect that those positions likely no longer exist.
And it isn't any more of a PR stunt than when a Congressional Office talks about how much they are saving by the decision to have everyone fly coach. Absolutely ridiculous.
As I said in post two, this reminds me of how tea partiers kick and scream about spending, yet complain when the neighborhood parks are dirty or afterschool programs are cut.
If someone doesn't like the President, it really doesn't matter what he does in this situation. He will be criticized. I simply see it as much ado about nothing.
There won't be real budget actions until each office feels the pain and they will avoid that as long as possible.

until you provide a link showing who has lost a job it is conjecture.
This post isnt bc I dislike Obama, I certianly dont send him an Xmas card but this is about how stupid the political game has become. You know what he is doing,,,,,,its quite obvious.
Closing WH tours and cutting after school programs is apples and oranges.
I am not a party line follower and you do know that....just work with me here and admit its a petty manuever by our President

Yes, becuase you have so many posts discussing the policies where you agree with Obama.
You aren't as bad as some, I do give you that.
Of course there are other areas that could be cut. Its no different than the GOP trumping these cuts that essentially do nothing to reduce spending. It is all posturing.
And cutting tours and reducing after school programs both reduce spending, in different areas.
Petty wouldn't be the word I would use, unless I was describing your criticism.

Well, you are the one who raised your political beliefs as a means of suggesting that your criticism was more legitimate because you "'aren't a party line follower."
There are hundreds of things to criticize Obama and the rest of Congress about. Spending is absolutely one of them.
But all of my other posts stating how Obama is damned either way here remain in "full force and effect."

The sequester was to cut about $45 billion now and $85 billion over the next year. I think those numbers are close. Here is my list to accomplish this:
Eliminate the Sugar subsidy - $1.2 billion/yr
Eliminate the Dairy subsidy - $1.1 billion/yr
Reduce by 20% cost growth in DOD Maj. Def. Aquisition Portfolio - 3 billon/yr
Eliminate Community Dev Block grants - 3.4 billion/yr
Suspend federal land purchases - $466 million/yr
Terminate Community Oriented Policing Services - $829 million/yr
Eliminate JAG assistance grants - $519 million/yr
Repeal the Davis-Bacon act - $512 million/yr
Eliminate Fed subsidies for Amtrak - $1.4 billion/yr
Eliminate the AmeriCorps program - $698 million/yr
Sell excess Fed real property - $4.7 billion/yr
Reduce annual amout to UN by 25% - $1.9 billion/yr
I barely scratched the surface and I'm almost at $20 billion. Just for fun let's try some other government waste on things like....
$6 billion for research to find out what lessons about democracy and decision-making can be learned from fish.
$500 million for a program to find out why 5 year olds can't sit still in K class.
$2 billion for farmers to NOT grow food on their land
$947,000 for researchers to study the best foods to eat on Mars.
$1.5 billion on free phones and cell minutes
Duplicate payments for veterans health care - $1 billion
Science research money going to a musical about climate change - $700,000
$75 million for FEMA rebuilding waste vs repair
$330 million in Medicare payments to businesses that owe millions in back taxes.
$700 million by our military to develop a better tasting jerky
$3.2 billion in fraud payments to prisioners for college grants
CBO estimates $2.7 billion on fraud and mismanagement in the food program. With a new all time high of people on the program, this could only be higher.
And the mother of all waste - $62 billion on fraudulent and improper Medicare payments. This was $47.9 billion in 2010.
I just listed about $100 billion in annual waste without much effort. There are hundreds of programs like this that waste money and not one of them is being cut from either side. Our elected officials continue to fail us.

Of course it will never happen. Neither party as a whole is interested in cutting. There are a few individuals that would cut this waste if given the chance but they are in the extreme minority.
I agree that the Republicans are way to focused on repealing Obamacare. Focus people, focus. But if the hysteria of these cuts has shown, you can't cut a thing in DC without the world coming to an end (or at least them telling us it will). I need to stop calling them cuts, they are only a reduction in the INCREASE in spending, not real cuts.
