Butch Jones really blew it last year with a loaded squad and a weak SEC East. How did the Volunteers not win the SEC East? Georgia had a rookie coach in Kirby Smart. South Carolina was a complete mess when Will Muschamp arrived. Jim McElwain still hasn't found a quarterback with the Gators. Missouri looks to be in for some difficult years for the foreseeable future with the mess Gary Pinkel left them in and Kentucky and Vanderbilt are historically irrelevant in SEC football. After four seasons, Jones teams are inconsistent and lack attention to detail in big moments. I expect more of the same this year.

Rebound from what? They had a great year, capped with a bowl win.
Beg to differ sir. They were 8-4 in the regular season and played in the Music City Bowl. If you think Vols fans were happy with those results you are mistaken.
Tennessee was picked to win the SEC East and play for the championship. Didn't happen...even Vanderbilt beat them.

Tennessee has a new Chancellor (Beverly Davenport) and just recently hired a new Athletic Director (John Currie). Neither has any loyalty to coach Butch Jones and most AD's like to bring in their own coach.
If Butch Jones comes in with another 8-4 record, he will be history after five seasons.

I'd say they weren't loaded. The numbers from 2015 suggested they overachieved compared to their stats.
My friend I don't like to be UGLY to anyone who loves CFB. It's clear you need to do some research/homework because you don't have a bloody CLUE what you are TALKING about.

Give me a break, Walter. I called it before the season started. UT was my overrated team of the year, and they made me look smart.

Yeah, all the talk last year was Tennessee was back. In 2015 they lost 4 games by a whisker. Sooooo close, but no cigar. So 2016 was supposed to be their year. Home games against Bama and the Gators. Phil Steele says they win the SEC East and are title contenders. Seven turnovers against Texas A&M started the slide. Horrible run defense gives up 218 yards a game. Result, another 9-4 year. Reminds me of Nebraska and Bo Pelini.
Butch Jones has done a lot to get Tenn almost back to where they once were but just can't seem to get over that hump. To me looks like lack of execution, poor coaching, sloppy, sort of like Hoke at Michigan.

So you felt the returning players were not as good as advertised? The defense had allowed an avg of 20 ppg three previous years and had eight returning last year. Toughest games at home made it look like it was going to be their year. What was it that had you decide they were overrated?
For me it's Butch Jones, reminds me of Hoke, just can't seem to have a fundamentally sound unit.
That first game against App St told it all. They win it in OT after Dobb's fumbles going in to score and a team mate recovers. Just plain lucky!

Any Tennessee fan/bettor want to give the Covers CFB Forum a heads up on what to expect from the Vols this season.
Homer guys welcome but more interested in a gaming partner who understands the loyalty factor for a betting forum.
I WIn/You Win....type of information.
I'm in class at the Haslam business school so I can't type too much right now. Coleman Thomas came over last week and said the players are really against Butch right now. Only 'upside' is that our S&C coach is doing well and Shoop has his own coordinator under him as opposed to the rag-tag ones we had last season. Hope this helps. GBO
