So with just a few games left in this years
condensed NBA season the playoff picture is starting to shape up. Most of the
teams have already clinched their playoff birth’s but there are still plenty
scenarios to be played out in the seeding of each conference. With the Knicks
now holding a one game lead over Philly for the 7th playoff spot in
the east it is still not a lock that they will make it to the playoffs but
let’s speculate and pretend that they do. What happens next?
After last night’s game against the Celtics
it is quite clear that when this team is on and given Anthony keeps
steamrolling over his opponents that this Knicks squad could pose quite a
problem for teams not only in their conference but in the whole league. Melo
recorded a triple double of 35pts, 12rbs and 10ast last night and has averaged
over 33 points per game in their last 10 outings. Novak and J.R. Smith scored
25 a piece and the Knicks as a team ties a franchise record of 19 three
pointers made.
The real issue comes with the return of
Stoudemire into the lineup, the Knicks have no reliable 2nd scoring
option and he could provide them just that but what effect will it take on
Anthony’s game? Also even though both Smith and Novak are gifted shooters, they
are streaky and cannot be counted on in the long run for being consistent all
the time. Even if Lin comes back from injury, after having a month off he will
need time to get his rhythm back and we all now Miami, Bulls, Celtics or any
other team in the post season will not give him that luxury.
I can actually see the Knicks winning a
series against any team in their conference but in order for that to happen
Anthony will have to average 30pts+ per game, Stoudemire, Chandler, Novak and
J.R. Smith will have to average at least 15 a game along with quite a few
rebounds and assist. Given all of the adjustments that their opponents will be
making in any series they play I just don’t see this being the year that those
stats could be sustained.

when you think of the Knicks roster it is one of the deepest and most talented squads in the league. Thing is they are all inconsistent or not producing at all (Baron Davis). If in a dream world they all played up to their potential then the Knicks would be favorites to win it all I think.
And Amare of the bench will not happen bcuz of what you said, makes the decision makers look bad i think

yes but i think if the coach is wise, that should happen. playing melo at the 4 spot was the best thing the knicks have done all year. no 4 can guard melo and melo makes the right passes when you post him up. he actually is a great passer. he can create for the shooter the knicks have.
when amare comes back melo will get pushed to the 3spot and i think they will have problems again as melo playing the 3 he isnt really invloved as much to posting up and making the right pass or taking man in.

I totally agree and I think his insane spike in numbers across all stats in recent games is pure proof of the position change...but like you said what do we know? :) lol
would be good to see the knicks make a deep run and surprise some people, been a while...
