secretly hoping for goals to help bring that # down on thy future to offset what im thinking is gonna happen tmrw. in any case.
Brazil/Mexico - Brazil? for me, Marcelo being ruled out is pretty significant; hes the one whom I consider "irreplaceable". simply put, he screws up a defensive scheme because he has to be held accountable. teams just arent used to seeing this all too much. when your wingback constantly forays into the offensive zone someone has to shift, his importance in having him in there creates the space for his teammates. and when you look at his teammates --- thats not really necessary to start with. ha. Mexico is fortunate because they rarely encounter this; not many teams have the cajones to constantly send their wingback in deep. Havent read yet whom is getting the start and Id imagine Brazil being Brazil, theyll continue doing the same things, but doubt it will be as constant. Mexico? they have their own headache with Moreno suspended, Lozano & Chico will keep Brazils defense honest. beating Germans gave them a ton of confidence. however, Sweden destroyed them at THEIR OWN GAME. But thats the thing with these Sombreros, theyre much much much more efficient when counterattacking; when they face a team whom concede posession to them, the going gets tough; 4 years ago all everyone remembers is that 7-1 thumping, but the biggest suprise was when these two played their 2nd match of Group stages to a 0-0 draw; and one of the shocking stats in my opinion was Mexico won the ball posession battle too, not to mention WHERE that was being played. you can count on one hand the amount of times the last 10 years the Samba boys lost the possession battle. so I am sure Osorio will look back at that and try to duplicate. The thing with Mexico though is like every 4 years they catch peoples attention, then come KO round? they fold like a cheap tent. this is the 7th straight WC theyve advanced i think... and have yet to make it to the Qtrs. and theres just something about Knockout stages in major tourneys with these Sombreros.... lost to Germany 4-1 in Confed, and Chile 7-0 in Copa.
however, this game might be a LOT closer that the line suggests. and Brazil, if they get the lead, --- due to Marcelos absence --- will probably fall back & play a more traditional defense & try hit them hard off the counters. and if theres one GLARING weakness of the Sombreros, its defending the counter. Sweden exploited them and im sure Tite has reviewed the film.
Im just going to take a chance on how I feel this match will be played out.

2nd half over 1.5 @+110 - if theres a lead at the half? either way, all the better for this one.

Bollox tempted to take the 2.5 but not really interested, the more goals helps out the future anyways. in all honesty if Brazil bangs one in within the first half hour, we could see 5 here. we'll see how it goes.

Ganda ITS YOUR TURN, lets hope its not a fingernail-chewing event too
yoro, general, deep, pdouble appreciate it
Samba boys gave a clinic on how to beat a good counter-attacking team.... you counter their counters. 18 goals, 11 matches left.
Belgium/Japan - interesting in watching the line movement. 4 years ago the Waffles played Korea and boy did they keep that line tasty. now they get Japan, and here comes the "gadzillions", Asians confidence is admirable if anything.
Belgium? - wanted to mention something it was being discussed with friends as I noticed a LOT of chatter regarding the brackets (from the Lion/Waffle match) and all that bullsh*t about "easier paths". (and this has NOTHING to do with the recent days results). especially european teams/staff; most dont give two **** about it. its ALL ABOUT matchups, styles. at this stage all the teams are decent, and possess a style which is their strength. and when you look at Belgium ------the one thing which sends their offense to a screeching halt is teams whom can flood the midfield and dont allow Hazard/Debruy to make those runs into the box, this makes Luk invisible. if you can slow the pace down & get them "thinking" then you have a shot, because when they stop 'thinking' they are 10x more dangerous. and when you look at the brackets, Belgium, because of the opponents style has a much better chance of beating Brazil/Mexico than they will beating a Columbia, Sweden/Switz.... all 3 whom are more than capable of doing the exact thing which they struggle with the most; not to mention dangerous on counters -- which is something they really havent had to worry about yet. Besides, when youre a darkhorse to win the whole damn thing; with a roster chock-full-of EPL elites; youre not worried of anyone, theyre worried of you.
and with Nainn left off the roster, it pretty much sends the message that 'we are going to win this thing 5-3/4-2 & not 1-0'.
styles trump brackets.
Japan just doesnt have the style or roster equipped to handle them, theyll be able to hold out and keep this close I think, the fav -1.5 is suicidal in the WC and simply would not touch this with that untested defense of Belgium. lost in all the 'ooohs' & 'ahhhhs' of their offense, they conceded 2 to Tunisia and allowed Panama to put on pressure. but eventually Waffle-boys will find the net. and once that happens...... "uh-oh". in their Qualifiers 25 of their 43 goals came in the 2nd half; 6 of their 9 in WC too, 90% of the time after already having the lead. sitting back and relaxing/protecting isnt in their playbook. Martinez will try HARD to '$%&* that up' perhaps next match. lucky for him, he has players whom can cover up his deficiency. so im just gonna keep riding this till it stops.
Belgium/Japan over 2.5 @-115
and lets hit that 2nd half 'over' again. assuming Belgium has the lead, Japan will have to spread out, and once Eden & Co. receive balls at/inside midfield line...........

yoro, i simply do not like -1.5 lines in the WC. provided the stats to back that up in an earlier thread. not saying its gonna hit/miss. its just a 'learned' lesson.
4 years ago everyone and their mother have germans destroying Algeria. like ur doing, i took algeria and almost bit off more than I can chew cuz it went to xtra time. Waffles will create chances, they still need to convert. we'll see how it goes.

Great Writeup Specimen...The best value I was able to find on this game is BTTS (-105 odds)...I believe Japan can get 1 goal...Belgium will definitely score...

decent day again getting the sweep. got the ratio down to 13/10games for the goals and Waffles live for another day.
thoughts:
notice when Felipe ventured deep, suddenly Coutinho ended up with the ball with plenty of real estate in front of him. that is what Marcelo brings. Tite has a major strategic decision to make this week & Samba boys have a few big problems to address.not to mention marcelos health.
Belgium? lazy defense, and if they play like tht this friday theyre gonna get kicked to siberia. i can punch about 5 holes in them as well, but the name of the game is to advance..be it 1-0, 5-0, 7-6 whatever. but that was a terrible mistake on japans coach sending numbers into the box for that final corner. especially when you had 30 minutes of play sitting in front of ya.
