My first job was at a Porsche dealer. I was 18 and would run errands for the GM (coffee, dry cleaners, lunch, etc.) in his demo. Before I knew it I was doing dealer exchanges where I'd either drive/fly to dealers anywhere from Georgia to New Jersey to pick up a Porsche that was ordered by one of our customers.
I was only making minimum wage, but I was driving 911's and 928's and getting all of my meals/hotels paid for. Sometimes I would take a friend or a girl with me if I was driving both ways. I honestly don't know how I never got myself into some serious trouble.

How did you not parlay that into a moving up at the dealership?

While I was in college, in addition to student loans and grants, I also got a work/study job in the library. Sound pretty boring, right?
Well................whenever a young lady wanted to check out a book, I got to see their student I.d., then I got to ask
"I need your phone number and address please" Which is nice.....
Overdue books? I got to call them up. And since their Ids were on file, and had a photograph, I could tell if they were good looking or not
