Texas - So whats the deal with Texas? I know alot of people think it's time for Mac to step down, and to that I say non sense. Look you want to know the real reason Texas has been struggling the last few years? It's simple, I talk about it all the time and if you read my stuff on here you already know the answer, QB Play. This game is driven by QB play. It's a fact, if any one of you want to argue about it I can really explain why the QB position is and always has been the most important position on the filed. Teams who have QB's win Championships, fact. Yeah, you have a occasional year where a Baltimore ravens team won with good or at least above average QB play. But for every one of those teams you want to point out, I will point 20 to prove my case. Mac knows his team is struggling because the last few years he has had Zero play from that position. Am I convinced they will be much improved this year? I think there loaded at all potions at every level. I think there transforming into the type of team that is a physical smash mouth no non sense football team. But will it take them to the next level with the current QB's on this team? No. I dont think Texas can compete among the elite until they prove they have the " next " guy. You know what separates Texas and Oklahoma right now in the Big 12? Landry Jones, that's it. With all that being said, I still think Texas is talented enough to win 9 possibly 10 games, but it wont be enough to this conference. I think Texas needs to watch out for that trip to Ole Miss early in the season and as of right now, I cant see them beating Oklahoma. I really think that W.V has the edge on them right now too. By mid season if this offense hasn't shown any life then Baylor, you know the same Baylor who has beat their brains in the last two seasons, could beat them again. The solution is simple, your Texas. Act Like it.

TCU - TCU is where they should have been all along, in the Big 12. Whats really odd is why in the hell were they in the mountain west to being with. If you guys have been paying attention you would know that I regard Mr. Gary Patterson very much. This guy is a great college football coach, easily one of the 5 best in the country. Will his winning come to a stop now sense entering the Big 12? Absolutely not. TCU wont win the Big 12 this year, but make no mistake about it, they will win it sooner then later. Last year was the first year I ever seen a TCU defense that was mediocre. So conventional wisdom says no way they struggle two years in a row. Well, welcome to the Big 12, home of the offense. Defensively theses guys better get use to seeing some points, cause they aint gonna be shutting teams out in this league. Now keep in mind that it's not TCU im giving a hard time too, its every team playing defense in this conference. Offensively I love this team, I think Casey Pachall will have a huge year probably throwing 3500 yds or more and running for a few hundred too. The guy has plenty of weapons as well. The teams top 3 receivers and all of there top backs as well except for Wesley are coming back. Not sure why Wesley left, if anyone knows please share. Of the two new schools entering the Big 12 I think these guys got the toughest schedule and that's pretty much why I picked them 4th. I think @ Baylor,@ Oklahoma S.T,@ W.V and @ Texas is a tough stretch of games away from home. No need to worry, I still think it's a 9 win team no less than 7.

Ed Wesley left school do to family circumstances.  That's definetely a blow, but if TCU could afford it, that was just about the only position.  Still have 2 very capable running backs, a trio of talented recievers, and IMO one of the best Quarterbacks in the conference.  Thanks for the info BOOM!

Wesley entered the NFL supplemental draft because his mom got sick. Hopefully he gets picked up on Thursday.

Watch out for WR LaDarius Brown...not among the trio of receivers you mentioned, but has been the best in practice BY FAR. 6'4", 220. Nobody can cover him in practice. He redshirted last year because his mom died right before he showed up on campus. Struggled to adjust. But he will be All Big-12 1st team at the end of the year, count on that.

I am actually very optimistic looking toward our season.  I feel like despite our gauntlet of a stretch late in the season, this TCU team has gotten better as the year goes year in and year out, to me that says something about Gary Patterson, considering he has been pretty much the only consistent figure on all of the teams I have watched.  Having said that, Texas and West Va on the road, and then OU at home immediately following, thats just brutal.  IF, big IF, we can start the season 7-0, it just might give us enough confidence and momentum to maybe pull an upset or two late in the season.  Its college football and thats why I enjoy it more than any other sport in the world, you just never know.  It's going to come down to our secondary and how much they can step up from last years disaster.

Love the Leach talk! Boom - Leach will turn it around immediately. It won't take 2 years. A bowl game this year for sure especially with a pretty favorable schedule. We have a good qb in Tuel - projected nfl draft pick. Plus a top 5 receiver in country in Marquess Wilson. 1388 yards last year. People don't realize that we were 14th in the nation in passing last season and that was with our starting qb out for most of year. If Tuel and Wilson stay healthy and with Leach's no huddle we will definitely be in the top 5 in country in passing. Our defense will give up a lot of points but we will outscore teams in at least half the games.

Boom - good right up on my Longhorns.  Our D will be nasty...we may have some depth issues on the OL.   Unlike with Colt McCoy where outstanding QB play was required, I think Texas is migrating to the Bama model of game management using the Boise blueprint...I am not worried about Ole Miss...Texas will not take them for granted.  In fact, it will be a statement game for Texas, with the recent loss of "little brother" Texas A&M to the SEC.   Texas will want to show the nation, that like LSU and Bama et al, they can also beat the crap out of a marginally talented Ole Miss squat at their house...The spread will  be Texas -17 and Texas will win and cover...

GoCougs - do you they WSU will cover in week 3 at UNLV... I know last year they destroyed them at home in week 2.  UNLV has been tough ATS the last 3 years at home.  I have targeted WSU in this game, because 1) WSU has lost for so long, they will beat the living crap out of a bad team if they can, including on the road, 2) the pirate has a history of running it up, 3) Tuel seems like the real deal, 4) WSU D, though still pretty bad, has improved recently.

Thank you in advance for your perspective on this WSU v UNLV matchup...

Longhorn - I think we are currently favored by 17 at UNLV and I think we should cover that spread. I watched UNLV the last game of the season at TCU and they are just an awful team. They lost that game 56-9 and had less than 50 yards passing. They lost to us in Pullman 59-7. Total yards were 612 to 158. Oh that was with our back up qbs too. Even though it's a revenge game and UNLV does play slightly better at home we will run it up on them again. It won't be 59-7 but it should be a comfortable win by at least 3 tds. I will be at the game by the way.

Oklahoma S.T - I dont know about most of you, but I wanted to see this team in the NC game last year. We can argue all day about it but the facts are still the facts. The coaches poll is what did these guys in at the end of the day. Coaches will their own personal agenda with no integrity. Air Forces coach actually voted Oklahoma S.T 6th in the final polls. Huh? What? Why? Was that enough to keep them out of the championship game? I think so. This "system" we had in place was a crock of garbage. Thats why you wont get any complaints from me about this new format. The question about this OSU squad is can they replace the QB WR combo? Well, I dont think you just replace pieces like that. I know alot of people think this is system and I understand that to an extent, but the fact that both were arguably the best at their positions it will be hard to argue that both will be hard to replace. Offensively this group is still extremely talented. The Running backs and receivers are still filled with depth on this team and I think the OL is still deep enough to protect. IMO its still uncertain who will be QB. The young freshman Wes Luntz im hearing may get the job. Something tells me Clint Chelf could beat him out come summer practices. I know this is a shocker but im about to tell you something that you probably hadn't heard in your lifetime. The Oklahoma S.T defense will be good this year. WHAT!!!!I know, I know. It's hard to believe an understand but I think this group defensively has a chance to be pretty good. What made this group so good last season was turnover ratio. I dont know what it was off the top of my head, but OSU really done a great job turning the ball over in there favor. Overall I do think tho, that this season OSU will take a step back. It's just a natural expectation for a team to take a step back after losing so many important pieces. The schedule isn't that bad if you look at it. Road games @ Arizona, @ Kansas, @ Oklahoma, and @ Baylor isn't that bad if you look at the rest of the league. I think were looking at a 7 or 8 win team depending on how quickly the QB situation is resolved.

Since My Quote function isnt working for some reason,

Boom, what do you think of Virginia now that Phillip Sims has been declared eligible?

I really think this kid can run and throw and will give the ACC defense's headaches they may not be able to deal with, I really am high on Virginia now and my target game is vs TCU where Im certain they will be getting points at home and Simms should be entreanched as the starter by then.

Virgina is @ TCU that game.

I think Simms is a guy who is a athlete playing QB like so many others are. I like the guys build and I know he has a strong arm, but will he be good? Only time will tell. I think the type of offense Virgina runs might damper him from showing his true talent. I always thought Simms should have been in a system where the QB is a threat eery play..... The Virginia offense is a very controlled offense that plays to slow the game down and kill clock. Lets assume he's gonna win the job. I think he might but you never know.

Kansas S.T - OK here we go, the Bill Snyder lesson. For those of you that dont know coach Snyder is among the best coaches in the history of our game. If you would like to, go and look at his coaching tree. It will amaze you. The guy is simply the difference in winning and losing. He alone knows what it takes to build a program and defeat teams that quite frankly, he has no business beating. If your a true fan and historian of the game, please, give credit where credit is due. This years team shouldn't catch anyone by surprise. I think that Colin Kline has the attention of defenses now and should once again pose a big problem for teams. If the OL can hold up I think this could be the deadliest running attack in the conference. But as I said, these guys now have everyone's attention. Defensively how good is this team? It's really a big question if you ask me. It's hard some times to gauge these defense from the Big 12. Why? The offenses they play are the best of any league. If you watched K S.T play OOC last year they done pretty well. They held Arkansas to under 30 points which is impressive if you ask me. I think in the big picture of things it will be hard to live up to what they accomplished last season. I never like to count Snyder out, but I think this about a 7 or 8 win team. The schedule is brutal and the magic carpet ride has to stop at some point. Now that I say this, Snyder will win the Big 12.

Baylor - Last season in my breakdown I told you guys 3 things about Baylor that I was absolutely sure about. 1) They would score tons of points and all you had to do was bet the over. 2) They would be a huge surprise to the nation and to not sleep on them. 3) RG3 was a complete freak and we all were about to witness greatness first hand. Well? Anyways. Baylor is a team that is clearly on the upswing. Really, you use to couldn't use those two words together in the same sentence. But as I say so many times on here (and I hope your paying attention) that's what good coaching will do. It can completely change a programs culture. Art Briles is a brilliant offensives mind who doesn't or hasn't gotten the credit he deserves. Do you guys realize that Baylor won 10 games last season? If you ask me, I would say yeah, things are changing. This years team I know everyone thinks will go back to the tank of the Big 12 and disappear again, not gonna happen. Will they take a step back some? Absolutely they will. Any team who loses there Heisman QB takes a step back. But mark my words, the offense will continue in Waco. Coach Briles is starting to get the attention of recruits. I like the offense obviously but also know that with QB Nick Florance things will be different. The QB threat to run the ball will disappear some in this offense just because of his ability's and the lack of depth behind him. The Receiving group is tremendous and very experienced and the Back field is very good but inexperienced. I think Seastrunk can be a huge big play threat, but there again, we need to see it first. Defensively it cant get worse. These guys were terrible but I do think that this being there 2nd year in the 4-2-5 should show some improvements. So what will this team be? I think there still a bowl team that can win 7 games. Hey, if your a Baylor fan dont be mad. Just know and understand that the best is yet to come. Trust me, 7 wins and a bowl game i what you use to dream of.

Boom,

Agree with alot of what you say about Texas. Not sold on Ash and you just cannot win with 3 different qb's like last year. But I love Malcom Brown and that kid Gray is going to be a solid back. Offense I think will be much more efficient but they do not have enough to beat the Sooners. Def better then last year and the O line play will be a huge difference in each game
