There aren't many things Alex Ovechkin hasn't accomplished in his star-studded NHL career, but he broke new ground Friday.
The Capitals left wing tallied his 22nd career hat trick in Washington's 6-5 shootout victory over the Hurricanes. If that sounds familiar, it's because he had a hat trick in his last game, against the Red Wings on Tuesday.
So Ovechkin becomes just the 14th NHL player to record hat tricks in consecutive games more than once in his career. He also performed the feat in October 2017.
