The Minnesota Lynx will face the Phoenix Mercury for the second time in three days on Sunday night in St. Paul.
Minnesota holds a 2-0 season series advantage over Phoenix, including coming off of an 88-71 win in Phoenix on Friday night.
“I know it is going to be a physical game and I know we have to take care of the ball. They are going to play hard at all times,” Renee Montgomery said at shootaround Sunday morning. “Those are things that we can just expect when we are playing them. We are going to come in and try to be mentally tough, physically tough and try to get a win
The Mercury will be without two of their leading scorers in the game. Brittney Griner (left knee bone bruise) and Diana Taurasi (undisclosed reason) will be out of tonight’s game.
“Scoring wise, I don’t think it’s going to be a factor. I think they have players that can easily step into those spots,” Sylvia Fowles said. “They have post players that shoot the three. It’s going to be challenging in different ways. I think there will be more physicality.”
The Lynx and Mercury are set to square off at 6 p.m. Sunday night at Xcel Energy Center. The game will be aired on Fox Sports North, NBATV and 106.1 BOB FM.
“I do get hyped for these games, but it doesn’t change my focus on what I have to do offensively and defensively,” Fowles said. “It’s going to be challenging in a different way tonight. I’m curious to see how it goes.”
