The defense still has to prove its self, if it does that and every game is not just a score fest, USC is legit this year. I mean lets not forget that last year they were 10-2.
USC is def gonna be in the rose bowl at least if the defense is improved. Plus USC is kind of dangerous because they have to be a bit jaded after last year. Just like michigan state jaded and dangerous. Getting snubbed from a BCS game you deserve to be in will piss you off.

This is the "Perfect Storm"..... As long as bama and Lsu beat each other up.
Two years ago, Kiffin ran "no contact" practices in order to keep his players from getting injured. This resulted in their defense being out played and out conditioned in the 4th quarters, cause them to lose 3 games on final drives.
Last year, we saw Kiffin effectively motivate his troops in a manner that had them peaking at the end of the year. No easy task, but they dominated ND in South Bend, punched Stanford in the mouth, I tasted the pace of the game in Eugene against the ducks, and steam rolled the hapless Bruins in the finale 50-0.
I believe this is Barkleys trophy to lose. ESPN are touting him as well because he makes for a good story.
Unfortunately expectations are SO high from the fans, that anything less than 13-0, PAC 12 Title, Heisman Trophy and BCS Championship will be disappointing. I don't like that mind set. I don't like potentially facing Oregon twice. Lastly, there's always the chance that ND and UCLA muster up their best game of the season against us.
Our defense is lean, especially on the D-line. The key will be putting pressure on the QB, maintains gap control, and employing an intelligent blitz package with the Tamoa 2.
The addition of Silas Redd at RB is huge, in that it fills a weakness in our run game, and a stronger run game will keep opposing defenses honest, allowing Barkey to pick apart backfields with argably the best WR duo in the nation. Barkley, if healthy, will break every QB record known to man at SC. Kiffin actually added to their offensive package during the spring in order to "keep (Barkley) from getting bored".
I need to see how our defense shapes up before I start betting already inflated lines. No way am I laying 6 TDs on Saturday, but I am interested in 1st Q totals down the road.
I see challenges with Oregon (home) , ND (home), Oregon again if all goes as planned and we meet in the PAC 12 title game and possibly Stanford (sound fundamentals) and Washington (Sarkisian factor). All in all, I see us ending the regular season at 11-1, and putting up a good fight for #1.

Eliminator, I don't see us against the world angle being a factor this year.
Kiffin was unemotional and oil as nails on the road last year, much different than the cheerleader style Pete Carroll led with.
Kiffin set his expectations as "us being ahead of the Ducks at HT shouldn't surprise any of you (players), this is what we expected to happen. Now let's get out and continue to okay sound fundamental football in the second half".

It def means something to the players to get held out of a bowl game because of stuff in the past. Players are gonna be a bit more motivated this year, why do you think Barkley came back, unfinished business means were gonna right what went down.
USC should be solid, just gonna see how the defense does.
