Here's an article about what Baffert is probably attempting to do with this move.
ARTICLE
Hansen was Blinkers Off in the Gotham, and although he wasn't in the lead , he was only half a length and a head behind at the first two calls. He won obviously and it was the first time he ever passed a horse in a race, although it was only 1 horse.
It also talks about how Prospective put them on in the Tampa Bay Derby and came out of the gate faster than he had been and won.
Kind of an interesting move by Baffert since Bodemeister has the outside post #11. He needs to win this race to get in the Derby because he's only got 104K in earnngs. He could come out only slightly slower like Hansen did but what if he comes out A LOT slower than he has been and he has to come from way back? He could come out slow enough to be hung wide on the first turn. Move might cost him a spot in the Derby.
But like Mike Maker with Hansen , looks like Baffert is experimenting to see if Bodemeister can come from off the pace. Or doing it because Secret Circle is in the race and he doesn't want those two running each other into the ground.
Should be interesting. I'm still on Optimizer. Good Luck
That comment from Ramon Dominquez that Hansen "galloped out like a freight train too" was also good info for the Derby.
PS:
I'm sure some a lot of you guys already know about Blinkers Off and On. This is for guys who might not be as knowledgeable about horse racing or didn't know that Bodemeister was Blinkers Off for the Arkansas Derby or hadn't thought about it.

Hansen had the #12 post in the Gotham but he already had a lot more than enough Graded Earnings to get into the Derby. He's also got better early speed than Bodemeister.
Bodemeister had Brisnet Pace Ratings of 85 and 92 to the first two calls of the San Felipe.
Hansen went 95 and 109 in the Gotham with Blinkers Off and he's usually 110+ to six furlongs (2nd call) with Blinkers On

greyhound...is there somewhere on the progam that indicates whether or not blinkers are on or off? and how does it change your mindset when capping a race...thanks in advace

The small "b" to the left of the odds in each past performance line tells you whether the horse raced with blinkers or not. The small "f" means front wraps. The big "B" means bute, a medication. The big "L" means lasix, a medication.
If it's Blinkers Off or Blinkers On it tells you that up by the weight the horse is going to be running with in this race. It will also tell you if it's first time Lasix. The "L" up by the weight will be in a circle or square surrounded by black color. If it's not surrounded by black color it's just telling you he'll be running with lasix like he did in his last race.
The article above and my comments explain what you have to think about and what they are trying to do with Blinkers On or Off.

Baffert removing blinkers and stating that Bodemeister is the speed is a curious duplex.I think Smith is on him to try to ration his speed or even rate him especially now that all the other speed is inside of him.He lost to Creative Cause coming out of a maiden he could be the best colt of this group, and if he wins impressively will help bettors of exotics by clouding the ranking order.

Secret Circle is in the Arkansas Derby to set pace. Baffert apparently wants a strong pace for his main horse Bodemeister who should win this comfortably from probably Optimizer.
If I were betting, my Exacta would be $500 Bodemeister/Optimizer straight and get a good return on my investment.

When I was attending the Santa Anita Derby last week , I went to the Baffert stable . Honestly , there really was not much Hype Talk about the Derby there from the barn . It was more about the health of Bob and the story that took place over in Dubai and the Arkansas Derby this coming Saturday in Bodemeister . There was so much talk about Bodemeister during the Derby week-end from the Baffert stable . Some What Surprising ! The word is : B O D E ! This race really doesnt trigger me much due to the fact a very lightly raced Colt in Bodemeister making a Stand in this big of a Stage G1 Arkansas Derby . I would like to see Bodemeister for Bob and Son Bode . But from what I have seen happening A L L Y E A R , OPTIMIEZER from coming out of last years Juvenile Breeders Cup is about the only Colt that has yet to make noise in making the Graded Earnings . So it would not surprise me one bit to see OPTIMIZER show up in a big way and find himself into the Derby picture . This race just doesnt appeal to me other than those two .
