"The privately held Irving, Texas, company, which employs roughly 19,000 people and carries more than $860 million in debt, has been facing a cash squeeze amid high labor costs and rising prices for sugar, flour and other ingredients, according to people familiar with the matter," The Journal reports.
1) High labor costs (I would like to know more info on this as well as the cost of middle and upper management)
2) Increase in cost of ingredients (which any and all bakeries would face)
3) The Pension liability (defintely would like more info on this....when was it started, how exactly is it funded, who and how is it managed so on and so forth)

If I can't get my Ho Ho's when I have a sugar rush what will I do?
Great thread on an industry struggling to survive in this turbulent economy. Good valid points on both sides, but if everybody wants to keep a job or a chance at still receiving pensions, cooler heads need to prevail and COMPROMISE
Have to totally agree w/Mods as their products are much pricier, losing shelf space, and are unhealthy. Could Twinkies have been on Michelle's "hit list" all along?

If your competition is more innovative and efficient than you, and knocks you out of business, that’s one thing.
More probable causes for business demise (with the concomitant loss of jobs) are the regulations and the efficiency reducing effects of unionization which make it virtually impossible for a business to succeed. (Imagine, in some places you have no choice but to be in a union…wow!)
The product’s quality or unwholesomeness is irrelevant.
Garbage sells, so spare me the “Twinkies are a bad product anyway” argument.
I present as evidence the proliferation of reality shows (the Jersey show where the broads are always fighting, and the towing one where obnoxious altercations are the prevailing theme).

its not amusing, its not helpful, its not witty, its not intelligent, its not interesting, its not thought provoking
it is juvenile and fucking boring, embarassing that a grown man would be have like that
why not take your little schtick on over to the penealy box and you can try to be entertaining over there
dont shoot the messenger...
The pattern of aliases on this site is all I am saying...and then certain posters out themselves as aliases... look at the above poster he makes it so obvious it is funny...
here is some valuable advice for you....
if it is boring etc... blah blah blah like you say then why not ignore it? I pretty much ignore everything boring on this site...
Why are you not able to filter things that do not apply to you or are intelligent, interesting thought provoking etc?
Why does that seem to be such an unattainable barrier for your brain to get past?
It is funny that the guy who wakes up every morning before work to post on this subforum on this site before anyone else does to do the same schtick of "sycophants" over and over and over is calling me out...
