Dont laugh but the Leafs had a good charge at the end there and actually seemed like a team ready to do some things. Reimer in net all year now maybe they return to the playoffs as well
45-1 is worth $20...

a lot of yapping about 39 year old Jaromir Jagr returning to the NHL with either my Penguins OR the Red Wings. I think he would be more of a distraction for either team.
the guy is an old loaf that doesn't want to get hit. think Alexei Kovalev with even less heart. hope my Pennies pass. better prospects in Wilkes-Barre
Or hey, how about a for shits and giggles bet on Winnipeg?
the Thrashers lineup is not that bad. lot of potential with Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd, Blake Wheeler and Evander Kane. they were in the running for a playoff spot until mid-march of last season. playing in a hockey mad Canadian city could push them over the top.
some interesting prelim 2011-12 Cup odds @ https://www.oddschecker.com/ice-hockey/nhl/stanley-cup/winner (courtesy of I-Got-5-On-It). Lightning @ 16-1 in the East and Ducks @ 27-1 look interesting.

I will somewhat agree with your assessment of the goalie problems, TDD, BUT the same could be said of my Penguins in the early 90's (Barrasso was over rated). they overcame that with potent offense. Ducks will win a bunch of NBA on Ice" games next season. also I don't think their D lineup is that "weak". with Visnovsky and Fowler they have solid "defensive D-men" like Beauchemin, Lilja and Brookbank.
when you have forwards like the "RPG Line" of Bobby Ryan, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf AND Teemu Selanne, Jason Blake, along with Saku Koivu, although all three are a bit "long in the tooth", you have the makings of a "fill the net" team.

Rat,
Perhaps you are right that you want to let your big dogs run, but if you score 3 goals in a playoff game, you can't lose two of those games in a single series.

Kudos to Holmgren for giving us plenty to talk about. Perhaps some other GM's will have the balls to make some other big trades now.

Flyers Lines Barring Changes Should Look Like:
Van Reimsdyk Giroux Voracek
Hartnell Briere Leino
Versteeg Powe Simmonds
Carcillo/Shelly Betts Nodl
Schenn
You can scratch Ryan Smyth off the Kings top two lines as word is it is pretty much a done deal that he is going back to Edmonton for not much in return to create money for Richards. This comes from the same source that 5 days ago said Carter was going to Columbus.

don't know about my Penguins.
really have to see if Sid and Geno are 100% to start next season. Flower has demonstrated he's a top 5 goalie and the defense looks solid BUT even before both Sid and Geno went out with season ending injuries they were having problems scoring esp on the power play.
I would say the top Penguins off season priority is a big banger Thomas Holmstrom style power forward that can created shit in front of the net and bang home rebounds on the power play. the Predators UFA forward Joel Ward would look good in Black & Gold.
my Penguins resigned Pascal Dupuis for 2 years @ $1.5 million per. "Duppy" a "heart and soul" player who's excellent on the PK. Pens would like to re-sign Tyler "The Tiger" Kennedy BUT didn't make him a qualifing offer. he would be missed by the fans BUT the Pens probably have as good or better (and definately bigger) @ Wilkes-Barre. don't think Shero would keep him unless the price is right.
no word on Jaromir "Knacker" (geezer) as of June 27th. hopefully the Penguins pass. Jagr would be more of a distraction than he's worth.
reports are that BOTH Sid and Geno should be ready for the start of next season. hope that's correct

You were so close 5... still not to late to get the Kings...
I didn't have money on it but thought that the Hawks would do better because I thought they would land a good goalie in the off-season. Obviously I was wrong.
