Michael Turner gashed the Carolina Panthers on the ground and rookie Cam Newton threw three interceptions — including two late in the fourth quarter - as the Atlanta Falcons secured a 31-17 home victory on Sunday.

Turner topped 100 yards rushing for the third time this year with a season-high 139 yards and scored twice. It was Turner's 22nd 100-yard game with the Falcons, which is tied for the second-most in franchise history behind Gerald Riggs.

Newton failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first game of his brief career.

Quarterback Matt Ryan threw one touchdown pass and added another on the ground to give the Falcons the lead for good. Ryan improved to 22-3 at home, including a 4-0 mark at home against the Panthers.

The Falcons have won five of the past six meetings between the NFC South rivals.
