North Dakota State 24, Kansas State 21: Brock Jensen scored on a quarterback keeper with 28 seconds left and finished with three total touchdowns as the visiting Bison stunned the Wildcats.
Jensen went 7-for-7 passing and rushed for 11 yards during an 18-play, 80-yard drive that lasted nearly nine minutes and ended with Football Championship Series two-time defending champion North Dakota State (1-0) pulling off the upset. Jensen completed 21-of-30 passes for 165 yards and Sam Ojuri rushed for 127 yards to lead the Bison offense.
Jake Waters went 21-for-29 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first start replacing Heisman finalist Collin Klein for Kansas State (0-1), which won the Big 12 in 2012.
The Wildcats appeared to be taking control out of the half, when Waters needed only three plays to find Tyler Lockett for a 56-yard touchdown and a 14-7 lead. Dante Barnett intercepted Jensen on the ensuing possession and Kansas State turned that into a two-score lead when backup quarterback Daniel Sams came off the bench and rushed in from 17 yards out.
North Dakota State recovered with an 11-play drive, capped by Jensen’s 9-yard scoring pass, and kept the pressure on with Adam Keller's 41-yard field goal before the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats had a drive stall out on a penalty at the beginning of the fourth, pushing them out of field goal range, and the Bison took advantage with their game-winning march.
GAME NOTEBOOK: North Dakota State has not lost on the road since Dec. 11, 2010, and has beaten a BCS opponent in each of the last four seasons. … Kansas State RB John Hubert, a Doak Walker Award hopeful, was held to 23 yards on 10 carries. … The Wildcats turned the ball over twice and rushed for only 41 total yards.
