Vanderbilt 41, Tennessee 18: Jordan Matthews’ 47-yard touchdown run sparked a 21-point third quarter as the host Commodores beat the Volunteers for just the second time since 1983.
Kris Kentera caught a 3-yard touchdown pass and Zac Stacy rushed for a 10-yard score in the decisive third quarter in which Vanderbilt (7-4, 5-3 SEC) turned a 13-10 lead into a 34-10 advantage.
Tennessee (4-7, 0-7 SEC) committed three turnovers and benched quarterback Tyler Bray in the midst of a 11-for-29, 103-yard, two-interception passing performance.
Bray’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Zach Rogers with 10:47 left in the second quarter put the Volunteers ahead 7-3. The Commodores rallied, taking a 13-7 lead on Jordan Rodgers’ 11-yard touchdown pass to Chris Boyd with 3:12 left in the half.
Rodgers finished 13-for-26 for 245 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Matthews for a 71-yard score down the right sideline with 9:52 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Vanderbilt’s only other victory over Tennessee since 1983 came in 2005 in Knoxville. … Justin Worley relieved Bray, going 8-for-11 for 51 yards and an interception. … Vanderbilt has won five games in a row, and has five SEC victories for the first time since 1935.
