No. 1 Alabama 33, Mississippi 14: Christion Jones returned a kickoff for a touchdown and AJ McCarron hit Amari Cooper for two scores as the Crimson Tide used a 21-point second quarter to overcome a rare deficit to defeat the visiting Rebels.

McCarron completed 22 of 30 passes for 180 yards – breaking Brodie Croyle’s school record for pass attempts without an interception in the process – while Cooper hauled in eight catches for 84 yards as Alabama (5-0, 2-0 SEC) defeated Ole Miss (3-2, 0-1) for the ninth consecutive time.

Jeremy Shelley nailed a pair of first-quarter field goals, but Alabama fell behind in regulation for the first time in 605 minutes, 46 seconds when the Rebels’ Jeff Scott scored from 1 yard out at the start of the second quarter.

However, it took the Tide only 15 seconds to retake the lead for good when Jones returned the subsequent kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. McCarron then capped touchdown drives on Alabama’s next two possessions with scoring strikes of 16 and 12 yards to Cooper to send the Tide into the break with a 27-7 advantage.

Scott finished with team-high 49 yards on the ground for the Rebels, who haven’t won at Bryant-Denny Stadium since 1998.
