Ball State 41, Indiana 39: Steven Schott kicked a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give visiting Ball State the upset of Indiana.

The Cardinals (2-1) squandered away a 13-point fourth-quarter lead before Indiana freshman Nate Sudfeld relieved injured quarterback Chase Coffman and guided the Hoosiers to 14 unanswered points. Sudfield's 2-yard scoring pass to Shane Wynn gave Indiana (2-1) a 39-38 lead before the Cardinals rallied for the winning points.

Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning hurled three touchdown passes as the Cardinals blanked the Hoosiers for the first 25-plus minutes of the second half until unraveling late in the contest.

Wenning also caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Jamill Smith, and receiver Zane Fakes hauled in scoring passes of 2 and 11 yards. Willie Snead caught a 34-yard scoring pass.

Ball State had a tough time containing Coffman, who completed 24 of 35 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns before leaving. Indiana wide receiver Cody Latimer caught 115 yards and two touchdowns, including a 70-yarder from Sudfeld with 4:07 remaining to pull the Hoosiers to within 38-32.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ball State has now won the past three meetings against the Hoosiers, and now trail 4-3 in the all-time series. ... Indiana starting quarterback Tre Roberson missed the game with a leg injury suffered last week.
