Tyler Bitancurt kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired to give visiting West Virginia a 30-27 victory over South Florida on Thursday night to clinch a share of the Big East title.

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith connected with receiver Stedman Bailey for 26 yards on fourth down with 7 seconds remaining to set up the winner for the Mountaineers (9-3, 5-2 Big East).

If Cincinnati beats Connecticut on Saturday to forge a three-way tie with West Virginia and Louisville for the Big East title, the team with the highest BCS rating would get the BCS bid. That is likely to be West Virginia. If UConn wins, Louisville will get the bid due to its victory over West Virginia.

JaQuez Jenkins’ 24-yard interception return gave South Florida (5-7, 1-6) a 27-20 lead with 9:49 left. The Mountaineers responded with an 11-play drive to tie the game on Dustin Garrison’s 5-yard run with 5:09 left.

Tavon Austin returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and Pat Miller took an interception back 52 yards as West Virginia built a 20-10 lead with 10:12 left in the third quarter.

USF trailed 10-0 early, but quarterback B.J. Daniels connected with Sterling Griffin for a 20-yard scoring strike with 5:13 left in the second quarter and the Bulls were within 13-7 at the half.

USF will not play in a bowl game for the first time since 2004.
