Tevin McDonald had three interceptions and Derrick Coleman turned all of them into touchdowns as undermanned UCLA defeated visiting California 31-14 on Saturday.

The Bruins (4-4, 3-2 Pac-12 South), playing without the services of six players suspended for their part in a melee last week against Arizona, capitalized on five California turnovers.

UCLA plays Arizona State next week with a chance to tie the Sun Devils for the South Division lead.

Coleman scored on runs of 2, 20 and 24 yards and finished with 80 yards on 16 carries. UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince led all rushers with 163 yards on 19 carries.

California (4-4, 2-4 Pac-12 North) took a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Isi Sofele in the first quarter. The Bruins scored the next 17 points, a run started by an 11-yard touchdown by Johnathan Franklin.

UCLA capitalized on McDonald’s second pick as Coleman followed with a 20-yard touchdown run to give the Bruins a 24-14 lead.

Jerry Rice Jr., son of the Pro Football Hall of Famer, caught his first collegiate pass for the Bruins.

UCLA safety Dietrich Riley was seriously injured in the fourth quarter and taken off the field on a stretcher. The game was delayed several minutes. He was shown moving his hands and his legs.
