AJ McCarron passed for four touchdowns and Trent Richardson added a rushing score as No. 3 Alabama dominated visiting Vanderbilt 34-0 on Saturday.

The vaunted Crimson Tide defense forced a pair of turnovers and surrendered less than 50 yards on the ground in their second shutout of the season. Alabama (6-0, 3-0 SEC West) gets Ole Miss and Tennessee in the next two games before a showdown with No. 2 LSU on Nov. 5 that will likely decide the SEC West champion.

Richardson finished with 107 yards for his fifth consecutive 100-yard rushing game.

The Crimson Tide weren’t as explosive on offense, scoring only once in each of the first two quarters on short passes from McCarron to Brad Smelley in the first and DeAndrew White just before the break.

Alabama broke it open in the third quarter, letting Richardson do most of the work on a 12-play, 94-yard drive that ended with Richardson’s 1-yard touchdown burst. Another three-and-out on defense and another McCarron-to-White hookup on the ensuing drive put the game away.

The Commodores (3-2, 1-2 SEC East) were 1-of-10 on third down in their second straight loss. After averaging 33 points during its 3-0 start, Vanderbilt has totaled three points in losses at South Carolina and Alabama.
