Georgia pushed its winning streak to three and moved above .500 in SEC play, riding another dominant defensive showing to a 24-10 home victory over Mississippi State.
Georgia (3-2, 2-1 SEC) did not allow an offensive touchdown in smothering Mississippi State’s rushing attack. Mississippi State (2-3, 0-3 SEC) came in averaging 217.5 rushing yards per game, but rushed for 56 yards.
Since starting 0-2, Georgia has allowed 23 points in victories over Coastal Carolina, Mississippi and Mississippi State.
Aaron Murray’s two first-quarter touchdown passes staked Georgia to a 14-3 lead. Murray found Orson Charles for a 21-yard score three minutes in, and hit Malcolm Mitchell from 6 yards out with 1:58 left in the quarter.
Carlton Thomas scored on a 7-yard run right before halftime, giving Georgia a 21-3 lead. Freshman Isaiah Crowell led Georgia with 103 yards rushing.
Mississippi State’s lone touchdown came on Darius Slay’s 72-yard interception return with 8:31 remaining.
Georgia travels to Tennessee next Saturday, while Mississippi State visits UAB.
