Justin Burke passed for 176 yards and two touchdowns, and Bilal Powell rushed for 76 yards and a score as Louisville came from behind to earn a 31-28 win over Southern Mississippi on Tuesday in the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Jeremy Wright returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and Doug Beaumont led the receiving corps with 79 yards for the Cardinals (7-6).

The Golden Eagles (8-5) looked like they had taken control at the start when they ripped off two straight touchdowns on back-to-back drives in the first quarter. Burke got seven points back when he found tight end Cameron Graham for an 11-yard score early in the second, but Southern Miss got it right back less than two minutes later.

The end of the second quarter belonged to Louisville, though, with Burke throwing for a score and the team taking advantage of a fumble to set up Powell’s score to knot it at 21-21 going into the half.

Austin Davis threw for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to give Southern Miss the lead again, but Wright returned the ensuing kickoff back 95 yards to steal the momentum back. Chris Philpott’s 36-yard field goal eight minutes later provided the winning margin.
