Aaron Murray threw three touchdown passes and Georgia edged rival Georgia Tech 42-34 at Athens, Ga., Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (6-6) earned a bowl berth with the win and they got a little help on the way.

Georgia led 35-21 in the fourth quarter but the Yellow Jackets responded with a pair of touchdowns. Anthony Allen scored on an 8-yard run with 4:15 to play which could have tied the game, but Scott Blair missed the extra point and Georgia maintained its 35-34 lead.

Georgia, which has won nine of the last 10 in the series, never trailed in the game but the Bulldogs couldn’t put the Yellow Jackets away either.

Georgia led 14-0 after the first quarter as Aaron Murray tossed a 66-yard touchdown pass to Kris Durham and a 32-yarder to Orson Charles.

Georgia Tech tied it with touchdown runs by Tevin Washington and Roddy Jones in the second quarter. But Murray connected with Bruce Figgins on a 3-yard score to give the Bulldogs a 21-14 lead at the half.

After the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 21-21 on an 18-yard run by Embry Peeples, Georgia regained the lead on 1-yard run by Washaun Ealey.

Ealey scored again on a 20-yard with 1:35 left for the final score. The Yellow Jackets (6-6) actually let Early score the touchdown so they could get the ball back, but Washington, making his third start after Josh Nesbitt broke his arm, was intercepted with under a minute left.
