Recap: Connecticut 16, West Virginia 13 (OT)
Oct 29, 2010
The Huskies' defense recovered three fumbles, including a pivotal one in overtime, and Dave Teggart kicked a 27-yard field goal to lift Connecticut to a 16-13 victory over West Virginia in a Big East Conference matchup on Friday night.
UConn (4-4, 1-2 Big East) had never beaten West Virginia before Friday night. The Mountaineers had dominated the series, winning the first six matchups by a combined 238-101 margin.
It looked like West Virginia (5-2, 1-2) was going to at least have a chance to maintain its dominance of Connecticut as it took the opening possession of overtime and methodically drove down to the Huskies' 2-yard line, where the Mountaineers had a first and goal. But Ryan Clarke fumbled and UConn recovered for the third time in the game.
Connecticut picked up a first down and Teggart came on to kick the game winning field goal on third down, giving the Huskies a much needed end to their two-game losing skid.
Jordan Todman rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries for the Huskies, who were outgained 416-278 but outscored the Mountaineers 13-3 in the second half and did not commit a turnover.
