Daniel Thomas ran for 182 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries as Kansas State pounded its way to a 27-20 victory over Iowa State at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City Saturday.
Carson Coffman added 105 passing yards and rushed for a touchdown for the 3-0 Wildcats, who had 267 yards on the ground.
Kansas State led 10-7 at halftime after Coffman curled around right end for a 10-yard score early in the second quarter. The Cyclones (1-2) quickly grabbed the lead after the break when A.J. Klein picked off Coffman and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown.
Thomas settled the Wildcats offense down on the next drive, rushing for 26 yards on five carries and capping it with a 1-yard plunge to make it 17-14.
A pair of field goals put Iowa State back on top, but Thomas was at it again in the fourth quarter. He rushed seven times on a nine-play drive and scored on a 2-yard run to put the Wildcats back on top, 24-20, with 6:47 remaining.
The Kansas State defense took over from there, yielding 25 yards on the ensuing drive before forcing a fumble and recovering with 2:04 left.
