Virginia Tech’s lingering Boise State hangover got a lot worse on Saturday.

Five days after their heart-breaking nationally televised loss to the Broncos, the 13th-ranked Hokies succumbed to the upset-minded Dukes, 21-16, in a stunning turn of events at Lane Stadium.

Dukes quarterback Drew Dudzik accounted for the most decisive of his three touchdowns (two rushing, one passing) when he darted into the end zone from 12 yards for the game’s final score with 13:45 left in the game.

Dudzik completed five of nine passing attempts on the day for 126 yards and rushed for 35 more for the Dukes (2-0), who host Liberty next week.

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor went 10 of 16 for 124 yards for Virginia Tech, which fell to 0-2 going into next Saturday’s game with East Carolina.
The Hokies might have wrested control of the game earlier, but committed three turnovers and were forced to settle for three field goals.
