Willy Adames ripped a walk-of home run over the left field fence with two outs in the ninth inning, lifting the Tampa Bay Rays to an unlikely 4-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday in the opener of a three-game series at St. Petersburg, Fla.

Adames' homer came off Baltimore reliever Miguel Castro (2-6) and allowed the Rays to snap a three-game losing streak.

The dinger also made a winner out of Sergio Romo (2-2), who entered with one out in the ninth and the game tied. Romo, the fourth Rays pitcher of the game, retired both batters he faced.

Tampa Bay barely had to put bat to ball in the eighth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit. The Rays used a walk, an error by Orioles first baseman Chris Davis, another walk and a run-scoring wild pitch -- all off reliever Evan Phillips with no outs -- to cut Baltimore's lead to 3-2.

Another walk reloaded the bases and drove Phillips from the game without recording an out. Paul Fry entered and coaxed pinch hitter Carlos Gomez into a run-scoring double play that tied the game. Fry then struck out Kevin Kiermaier to end the inning.

Baltimore's Alex Cobb pitched seven solid innings and was left with little to show for it. He gave up just one run on five hits -- all singles, three of which came in the first inning -- while walking two and striking out three.

Tampa Bay starter Tyler Glasnow went four innings, allowing a run on four hits and striking out nine without a walk. He left in favor of Jaime Schultz, who gave up two runs on four hits in two innings and was in line for the loss until the Rays' eighth-inning comeback.

Jake Bauers staked the Rays to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when he singled home Mallex Smith, who had singled and advanced to third on a single by Matt Duffy.

Baltimore used a solo home run by Tim Beckham in the fourth to tie the game and another solo round-tripper from Trey Mancini an inning later to assume a 2-1 lead.

Mark Trumbo added to the Orioles' advantage in the sixth with an RBI single that plated Beckham, who walked to lead off the inning and sprinted to third on Adam Jones' double.
