NEW YORK -- Starlin Castro tied a career high with four hits Sunday as the New York Yankees scored six runs in the first inning when the Seattle Mariners made five errors en route to a 10-1 rout.

Castro went 4-for-4 for his 16th career four-hit game.

He doubled during a six-run first inning that was aided by Mariners errors, including three by shortstop Jean Segura. Castro also added an RBI single in the third, singled in two at-bats and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chase Headley.

Gary Sanchez added an RBI single and scored on a fielding error by third baseman Kyle Seager as the Yankees won for the ninth time in 13 games.

Jacoby Ellsbury contributed a two-run, bases-loaded double. He wound up on third after Segura made two errors and scored the final run of the first on an RBI single by Ronald Torreyes.

Castro's day ended in the seventh inning when Greg Bird contributed a two-run single as a pinch hitter.

Masahiro Tanaka (10-10) struck out 10 and pitched seven innings of one-run ball in his second start back from the disabled list for the Yankees. Mariners left-hander Andrew Albers (2-1) allowed eight runs (three earned) and 11 hits in five-plus innings.

Nelson Cruz hit an RBI double for the Mariners, who fell to 5-4 on their 12-game road trip.

According to STATS, the Mariners became the third team since 1974 to make five errors in an inning. The last instance was July 2, 1977, when the Chicago Cubs committed five of their seven miscues in the opening inning at St. Louis.

STATS also said it was the 16th time the Mariners made at least five errors in a game.

The Yankees took a 6-1 lead by capitalizing on five errors in the first inning.

Sanchez made it 1-0 with a single that saw him reach second when left fielder Ben Gamel overran the ball. Two batters later, Didi Gregorius hit a popup into shallow left field and the ball fell between Segura along with Gamel and center fielder Guillermo Heredia.

The third error occurred when Seager dropped Headley's grounder.

After Todd Frazier struck out, Segura made two errors after Ellsbury doubled. His first error was dropping the relay throw from Gamel and his second miscue was a throw that skipped past catcher Mike Zunino.

NOTES: Seattle OF Jarrod Dyson (strained right groin) was eligible to come off the disabled list and was not cleared to return. He will continue testing his groin before Monday's game in Baltimore. ... Yankees DH Matt Holliday (back) continued his rehab assignment with Class A Tampa on Saturday by going 2-for-5. He may not return until Friday when rosters can be expanded. ... Mariners LHP James Paxton (pectoral) and RHP Felix Hernandez (right shoulder bursitis) played catch in Seattle, but neither is close to getting on a mound for a bullpen session. ... Yankees manager Joe Girardi was ejected in the third inning.
