It’s Super Bowl weekend, so let’s build our bankrolls on some Saturday NHL action. Four scheduled games have been postponed, but we still have six games worth of all-day ice action starting at 1 p.m. ET.

We’re getting a little action on the early game, playing an Over with a couple of non-adjusted teams and expecting more power-play time for the Blue and White.

We break down the odds and bring our best predictions for NHL hockey for Saturday, February 6.

NHL Picks for Today

Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators

The Canadiens and their success may be one of the biggest stories of the early NHL season. Montreal sits one point out of first place in the North Division and has won five of its last seven games.

A game against the Ottawa Senators sounds like a cakewalk, but the last-place Senators have played the Francophones well recently. Four of the last six matchups have reached overtime, while Ottawa topped Montreal 3-2 on Thursday.

The Canadiens have enjoyed five of their 11 games against the generous Vancouver Canucks and have only played Toronto (first in the North) once, while they are yet to play the third-place Jets.

An afternoon game would be a good spot for Montreal to start backup Jake Allen. The veteran goalie has played some of his best hockey to date, but with such a large sample size of average play, Allen is due for regression.

We aren’t saying Ottawa is coming to sweep the series, but we like the home team in an afternoon game and at +1.5 for -120, we’re cheering for the Anglophones.

PREDICTION: Ottawa +1.5 (-120)

Arizona Coyotes vs St. Louis Blues

Last season, both these clubs finished the year with better Under than Over records and that is saying a lot, considering their average total was less than 5.5. Fast forward one season and both teams are a combined 15-6 O/U on the year, but still priced as Under teams.

Saturday’s matchup will be the third and final game of a three-game set between the Blues and Coyotes. Each team has scored at least three goals in the two previous games, with a total of 14 goals getting potted. Neither team has needed the power-play to bury the puck, as 13 of 14 goals were at even strength. St. Louis has the best goals per game at 5x5 with 2.63.

The Blues have seen just one total above 5.5 all year, despite the fact that they’re averaging 6.58 total goals per game (3.45 for and 3.18 against).

With these early afternoon games, we expect some sloppy defensive play between two teams who very seldom have to play at this time of day. With plus-money on the Over 5.5, we can’t say no to a good trend with two teams that the market hasn’t corrected to.

PREDICTION: Over 5.5 (+110)

Vancouver Canucks vs Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs have stared down a lot of 6.5 totals to begin the year, but it hasn’t stopped them from cashing Overs. Toronto has hit the Over in four straight games as their offense has started to ignite and with it, the demise of goaltending and defense.

Toronto has allowed three goals in each of its last four games, which spans three different opponents. However, they have collected seven of a possible eight points in those games thanks to an offense that has managed 19 goals over its last four, including a seven-goal performance on Thursday.

Overs are nothing new to the Vancouver Canucks, as they pace the league with a 9-4 O/U record. Defensively they're a mess, and are coming off a game where they allowed a 37-year-old Jason Spezza to snipe three goals. Neither Thatcher Demko nor Braden Holtby has a save percentage above .900.

If you keep an eye out for special teams matchups, then you’ve likely seen this game (series) coming. Toronto is tied for the best power-play unit (40 percent) and faces a Vancouver team that is one of the most penalized teams in the league. Toronto had just one power-play goal in the 7-3 Thursday drubbing despite six chances. More could be on the way Saturday for the Buds.

PREDICTION: Over 6.5 (-105)
