The NHL betting season enters its second month and despite a few setbacks for some clubs, the league is thriving and showcasing the world’s best hockey daily. While the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres game was postponed, Tuesday’s slate still features eight games, kicking off at 7 p.m. ET and concluding with a pair of West Coast games starting at 10 p.m. ET.

We’re playing the Under in a game where the total should fall from 6 to 5.5 and we're loving the BJ's, who will be getting some scoring help Tuesday.

We break down the hockey odds and bring our best NHL picks and predictions for Tuesday, February 2.

NHL Picks for Today

Carolina Hurricanes vs Chicago Blackhawks

The Carolina Hurricanes played some great defensive hockey over the weekend, holding the Stars to just 40 shots over two games. The Hurricanes won both contests and are riding a four-game winning streak. Carolina is 2-3-1 O/U on the year and faces a Chicago team Tuesday night that has also had success with the Under.

The Blackhawks and their No. 1 goalie Kevin Lankinen have hit the Under in four straight games and are 2-5 O/U since the rookie has taken over. The unlikely star owns a sub-2.00 GAA and a .937 SV% to start his NHL career.

Lankinen has had to be good since the Blackhawks have found it hard to put the puck in the net. Excluding two games against Detroit, Chicago is averaging just two goals per game and has scored less than three goals six times in 10 games this year. Missing forward Alex DeBrincat hasn’t helped things either and Chicago will be without the former 40-goal scorer again tonight.

Carolina starting goalie Petr Mrazek is on the shelf – likely long-term – which means James Reimer will get the heavy load going forward. The veteran backup is 3-0 SU this year with a 1.99 GAA and a .918 SV%.

Getting this total at 6 instead of 5.5 is a real deal and we’re pounding the Under.

PREDICTION: Carolina/Chicago Under 6 (-125)

Dallas Stars vs Columbus Blue Jackets

Keeping with our trend of low-scoring teams, the Columbus Blue Jackets have potted just five goals over their three previous games. However, help is on the way with forward Patrick Laine having cleared COVID protocols and likely available for Tuesday’s match against the Dallas Stars.

Despite the low scoring, the BJ’s have managed to pick up points in seven of their last eight games and will likely start No. 1 goalie Joonas Koripsalo, who has allowed just 11 goals in five starts this year.

The Stars have played only six games this year and are coming off a pair of losses to the Hurricanes where they managed just 40 shots in two games. Dallas will be on its seventh game in 12 days and is currently on the team’s first road trip of the season. The Stars could be looking forward to their upcoming eight-game home stretch, but still have to show up for two games in Columbus.

We are passing on a total of 5 shaded to the Over, and instead, hoping the Laine addition adds a spark to the home team who is currently the underdog.

PREDICTION: Columbus ML (-105)
