Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

The Blue Devils are on red alert after dropping Saturday's game to Tobacco Road rival UNC, putting Duke in a position where it may get passed over for a spot in the NCAA tournament. Baring some resume wins in the home stretch of the ACC schedule, and a deep run in the conference tournament, the Dukies may not go dancing come Selection Sunday.

A big part of the problem is defense. The Blue Devils allow more than 72 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field. It gets even worse from the perimeter, with Duke's opponents draining 38.4 percent of shots from beyond the 3-point arc this season – 328th in the country. Even the Tar Heels, who stink from deep, finished Saturday's victory 10 for 15 from distance.

Enter the Irish, who rank among the best 3-point shooting teams in the conference. Notre Dame is knocking down almost 39 percent of its triples taken, averaging 10 3-point buckets over its last three contests. The Irish went 9 for 21 from outside in a 75-65 home loss to the Blue Devils back in December – part of a stretch in which the program went 1-6 SU and ATS.

Since January 16, however, the Irish have upped their offensive production to 74.5 points per contest – compared to an average of 63.6 points in their first five ACC outings of the season (all losses). Cameron Indoor is nothing without its fans and ND has covered in five of its last seven road stops, while Duke is a dismal 2-7 ATS in its last nine efforts at home.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame +6.5 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

We mentioned Duke's defensive ineptitude above but the Irish are no steel trap, either. Notre Dame has benefitted from playing some softer ACC offenses in recent outings and struggle to limit foes on the road, allowing 72.6 to host teams on the year.

The Blue Devils may not have their regular arsenal of offensive weapons, but Coach K still has some kids who can fill the stat sheet. Duke saw some improvements from its offense in the loss to UNC, shooting almost 54 percent from the field and hitting 11 of 25 from 3-point land. The bench also chipped in with some surprise contributions, getting 36 points off the pine.

Leading scorer Matthew Hurt had a rough Saturday, netting only seven points in 21 minutes due to foul trouble versus North Carolina. That forced Mike Krzyzewski to tinker with his rotation and he found success with a smaller lineup that helped pick up the pace offensively.

On the year, Duke is 119th in tempo at KenPom.com (69.9) and averages 72.1 possessions per game (162nd). The Blue Devils found another gear versus North Carolina, however, with 78 possessions powering a season-high 87 points. Bettors should expect Duke to ball small again in what will be a shootout in Durham Tuesday.

PREDICTION: Over 149 (-105)
