The scorching-hot Phoenix Suns have a quick turnaround to play the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena Wednesday.

Phoenix extended its current winning streak to five games (4-1 vs. NBA betting spreads) but needed overtime to do so, knocking off Cleveland in an added frame Tuesday night before making the overnight trip to Atlanta. The Hawks have won six straight home games, most recently a blistering offensive performance against Portland to improve to 20-11 ATS as hosts this season.

Here are our free NBA picks and predictions for Suns vs. Hawks on May 5.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

Phoenix finishes off its quick three-game Eastern road trip in Atlanta, but could be running on fumes after last night’s win in Cleveland. The Suns starters logged major minutes (average of almost 35 minutes per starter) and play their third road game in four nights against an Atlanta squad that is finally getting healthy.

The Hawks, who are still down some key frontcourt players, showed just how dangerous they can be by shooting the lights out in Monday’s win over Portland. Atlanta fired at 54 percent from the field as a team and boasted five players in double-figures with three players scoring 21 points or more.

Since interim coach Nate McMillan took over the team at the beginning of March, the Hawks offense has been one of the best in the league. A mix of pick-and-roll and post-up as well as the threat of the 3-ball (shooting 38.9 percent from deep since March 1) have powered the Hawks to fifth in the East. Atlanta buried 20 of its 41 attempts from beyond the arc Monday.

Phoenix’s defense wasn’t too sharp in the first two stops of this road trip, giving up 120 and 114 points in regulation to offenses ranked 28th and 30th in the NBA. The Suns will also have to deal with the Hawks crashing the glass. Atlanta is among the best teams in rebound rate and scores plenty of second-chance points and put-backs.

The Hawks have won six in row SU and ATS at home and boast an average margin of victory of 9.3 points as hosts since McMillan took over.

PREDICTION: Atlanta +1.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

The Suns also bring plenty of firepower to the court, even with the travel slog of a back-to-back set slowing them down. Phoenix has posted point totals of 114 (134 in OT), 123, and 121 in its last three games, shooting 53.4 percent from the floor in those contests.

Atlanta’s defense has budged for some bigger scores in recent outings, giving up 126 and 127 in two games in Philadelphia and 114 points to the Trail Blazers on Monday. The Hawks’ biggest concern is Suns scorer Devin Booker, who is hot off a 31-point performance versus the Cavaliers.

Booker is averaging 30.7 points over his last six contests, giving NBA bettors the makings of a high-noon showdown with Hawks standout Trae Young, who is averaging 27.5 points in his last six efforts.

PREDICTION: Over 229.5 (-110)

Player prop pick

Atlanta forward John Collins has thrived since McMillan took over the coaching reigns and is starting to round back into form after missing time in early April due to injury, shooting 59.6 percent from the floor over his last 10 games.

Collins has a collective 28 points and 18 rebounds in the Hawks’ last two games (15 points and eight rebounds in only 19 minutes vs. Portland) and faces a Phoenix squad that has had trouble defending the post-up game as well as keeping opponents off the glass.

The 6-foot-9 forward is also a threat from distance, making two 3-pointers in each of his past four games and shooting 47 percent from the perimeter in that stretch.

PREDICTION: John Collins points + rebounds Over 22.5 (-115)
