Starting pitchers

Triston McKenzie (0-0, 2.45 ERA): The 23-year-old will make his first start of the year after logging 3 2-3 innings in relief against the Royals last Monday. He allowed two hits and one run while walking four batters in that outing. The former first-round pick impressed as a rookie last season, pitching to a 3.24 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP and 42 strikeouts across 33 1-3 innings.

Carlos Rodon (1-0, 0.00 ERA): Rodon looked terrific in his first start of the year, topping out at 98 mph on his fastball while fanning nine batters and allowing two hits through five scoreless innings. The southpaw pitched just 7 2-3 innings last season as he worked his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2019.

Betting trend to know

The White Sox are 17-5 in their last 22 home games. Find more MLB betting trends for Indians vs. White Sox.

Moneyline pick

Cleveland is coming off a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers and has a record of 5-3. That said, four of those wins were against the Tigers while the other came against the Royals, and this will be the first time all season that Cleveland will be an underdog. The White Sox are 4-5 and coming off a one-run loss to the Royals.

It's a bit tough to evaluate the starting pitchers for both teams. Both Rodon and McKenzie were once highly-regarded prospects before injuries stumped their development and neither has thrown many innings over the last few years. That said, Rodon's fastball and slider were on point in his season opener and there's a reason he went third overall in the 2014 draft.

He should be confident against a Cleveland lineup that is batting just .226. The Tribe ranked just 23rd in the majors with a batting average of .229 last season, and while they added pop to their outfield with the signing of Eddie Rosario, they also traded away star shortstop Francisco Lindor.

Chicago has been much better at the plate, ranking sixth in the majors with 5.67 runs per game and third with an on-base Percentage of .354. Look for the White Sox's bats to give them an edge in this one and back the home side on the moneyline.

PREDICTION: White Sox ML (-130)

Over/Under pick

McKenzie had five strikeouts in his appearance last week but he also struggled with his control and had a rough spring, allowing 21 runs across 20 1-3 innings in the Cactus League.

He could find the going tough against a White Sox lineup filled with talented hitters like Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu, and Luis Robert. This is a dangerous White Sox lineup that ranked second in the AL with 5.03 runs per game last year and they are getting it done this season—despite injuries to Eloy Jimenez and Tim Anderson

While the Tribe haven't been hitting for average, they are swinging for the fences and currently rank third in the majors with 1.80 home runs per game while ranking sixth in slugging at .440.

With the White Sox 9-4 to the Over in their last 13 games overall, take the Over again tonight.

PREDICTION: Over 8.5 (-107)
