St. Louis Cardinals utilityman Brendan Donovan has settled into the starting role at second base while moving up the lineup this season.
After moving around the lineup from between the three and seven hole, Donovan has now hit leadoff for over a month.
It’s paid off for the Cardinals as Donovan has been able to get on base at the top of the St. Louis lineup.
Donovan is 14 for 46 (.304) in July, with the majority of those hits being singles. He has just three extra-base hits this month, and 73 of his 103 hits this season have been singles.
The second baseman has a single in five straight games and seven of his last nine, dating back to July 5. He’s also had success against Arizona Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson, going 2 for 6 with two singles.

St. Louis has been struggling recently and was shut out for the first eight innings on Friday night.
