This is a genuine discussion, some good points throughout it from either side of the discussion. Every time an athlete comes out saying what Agassi said is going to cause a lot of talking, which is exactly why he exposed himself.
To me Agassi is a sad piece of shit because he is saying this stuff and writing a book about it in order to make extra cash and it's very bad how he is doing this once more trying to take extra $$$ from the sport 'he hated' and its fans. It doesn't matter whatever reason you think you have for hating the sport, right or wrong, you should just shut the fuck up for respect of the sport and its fans, because you turned rich with it asshole.
Apart from this I don't really care about the rest.
Iceman80 is sadly very right about all the players tanking matches, it always happened and it will always happen into a sport where on average a player is on court for a lot of matches per year. Iceman80 is also right about how he should be judged based on his performances on the court and what he did in his private life, well who gives a shit. He didn't take steroids and 'cheated', actually the stupid fuck was on a drug who could have destroyed his career!
Agassi in tennis, Maradona in soccer, Tyson in boxing, Michael Jackson in music and the list could go on... should just be judged for what they offered fans doing what they did best and Agassi has given a lot of emotions to a lot of tennis fans just like every great athlete with a fucked up private life.
So my take on this is that Agassi the player should always be respected and should always be remembered for what he did best, because he is one of the all time greatest at it, and that Agassi the man is a cheap piece of shit. But again, we are on a tennis forum...

You guys are all idiots...obviously not accomplished athletes yourselves. If you were, you wouldn't make such stupid comments. MichaelPaul, obviously you didn't watch the entire 60 minutes interview. Agassi hated tennis because his dad made him play for 6 hours a day from the time he was 3 years old. He didn't make the choice to be a tennis player, he was groomed to be one by a demanding father. You can't understand why he would hate tennis. Just because something makes you rich you should love it??? Who cares if he wore a wig. That was part of the image that made him a famous millionaire. He started going bald at age 17. His sponsors told him he had to wear it as part of his contract. Lastly, MichaelPaul, he did drugs for one year of his life. That doesn't make him a drug addict you schmuck. Look up the definition of addict...and look at what he is doing now. He opened up a school with millions of his own money for underprivileged children in Las Vegas among many other charities. What are you doing to give back? He's married to the best female tennis player of all time and is raising two kids. I think it's safe to say that he turned things around and is winning at the most important thing...LIFE. What a bunch of judgemental morons you guys are!

This will be my last post on this issue. Agassi said he tanked some tennis matches because he didn't feel like being out on the court and didn't want to play the next day. If any of you played tennis at a semi-competitive level, you would know there are days where you really don't feel like being out on the court. Multiply that by 100. I would say that almost every single professional player has tanked a match at some point in their career. They just don't admit it. You've probably seen sometimes when betting on tennis where a great player will come out and get smoked by some unknown douche bag. Tennis can be such a mind fuck that sometimes it is easier to live with yourself if you lose a match on your terms rather than lose to your opponent. Thats the truth. Agassi is one of the very few players to admit it, but trust me, it happens way more often than you think. Regarding "dad made me do it", it's hard to tell your father no when you are 3 years old. It's also hard to say no at an older age when you've been groomed since you were 3 yrs. old to become the family's money maker. None of us can relate to what he went through with his father so it's stupid to give our 2 cents on what he should've done. Lastly, who cares that he wore a wig! I don't give a fuck if he wore a wig, had fake teeth...whatever! Are we going to start judging professional athletes based on what it takes to make their appearance. If Tom Brady comes out and says he had a hair implant or a nose job does that make him a lesser quarterback or person? If Serena says she had her tits done, does that make her a lesser player? Who cares morons!! I judge athletes based on what they do in their sport. If they take performance enhancing drugs...thats a different story. Agassi didn't take performance enhancing drugs and thats all I care about. The guy gave millions of people endless hours of entertainment during his career. He was one of the greatest players that ever played. He was also one of the very few who won all 4 grand slams on different surfaces. He and Sampras had one of the best rivalries any sport has ever seen. These are the things he should be judged for. Not for wearing a wig. Give me a break. You've got to be kidding me people!

TC always on the money...and Iceman I am not dating MichaePaul and I do have a life, daytime job weekend job, bills paid, no debt and no felonies on my record. Sorry to disappoint you but I am reproducing, scary huh? I know how strongly you feel about Agassi like millions of others, I am happy he was a role model in your life, mine was Michael Jordan, then I found out who he really was and I knew then you cannot mix athlete personal life, I met Robert Plant once, my musical idol and he was an a-hole. I really could care less in the big picture, just some anonymous bashing, I guess I am jealous someone said. Barry Sanders left his game with class I wish for more like him.

So he didnt use PHD's but its much more acceptable that he threw tennis matchs? Im sorry but that is BY FAR worse then someone taking some sort of performance enhancing supp. To throw a tennis match for money is prolly the single most disrespectfull thing to do in any sport. It shows a complete lack of respect for yourself, your opponent and the overall game of tennis.
If its true that he actually threw matches, that is far worse then anything Mcguire, Clemens etc did by taking performance enhancing drugs.
we will all say this but have you competed in tennis tournaments day in and day out???? I have but i am not saying i have thrown a match because of motivation or anything else but it is very hard to stay on top your game in this sport both physically and mentally.
Many athletes in many sports have given up in match play because they have lost motivation to win or are simply out of gas.
We will all say this because we bet on tennis matches and we never want the player we bet on to give up of course Sad to say it but its part of the game..get over it. Andre didnt bet on his own matches
Put yourself in his shoes.....you cant!

I don't care if this is true or not, however know that if you pimp your sport skills on this website you will be trashed.
Also, what is 'inside information'?
That a player was offered cash to throw a match and accepted to do so? That a player will retire after a set because he is injured? That a player will tank a match on purpose?
In any of these 3 scenarios, if you did bet on that match and win, my personal opinion is that you did cheat.
Besides if you are an ATP ranked player you are pretty damn stupid coming here on Covers saying that you bet on Tennis matches.
Do you know Alessio Di Mauro and Potito Starace? Or wait, maybe you are Alessio Di Mauro...
