Olimpia v. Tigre

Tigre won the first leg at home 2-1 . . . the most significant thing being the away goal scored by a very capable Olimpia.

Tigre missing Ruben Botta and Maggiolo - two parts of Tigre's offensive side of the game. . . Olimpia playing A. Silva in place of Jorge Baez in order to get better crosses into the box. . . Tigre has in the past shown a lack of discipline and mental toughness in that they seem to catch red cards . . . that could happen tonight . . . Olimpia rested its first stringers over the weekend with its 1-0 domestic victory over General Diaz (the team, not the villain from the Battle of San Jacinto) . . .

Some more thoughts on Olimpia . . .

(1)  Olimpia gets eliminated from Copa with a draw.  Any draw.  0-0; 1-1; 2-2; 3-3; etc.  Therefore, Olimpia must score.  Olimpia MUST score. 

(2)  Tigre gets eliminated with a 1-0 Olimpia win (and a 2-0 win; a 3-0 win; etc.).  Therefore, Tigre must either keep a clean sheet (unlikely because of (1) above AND the HUGE motivation that COPA instills in teams) or score to match Olimpia . . .

(3) A 2-1 win by Olimpia and the teams go straight to PKs . . . no extra time . . .  Neither team wants its COPA fate determined by PKs . . .

(4) A 3-2 win by Olimpia sees Olimpia eliminated due to the away goal tie breaker . . .

There will be goals in this game. . .   

I look for Tigre to come out trying to score an early goal . . .  rather than park the bus . . . a Tigre goal would mean that Olimpia would have to answer with 3 goals to ensure moving on . . . (a tall order) . . . remember . . . a 1-1 draw kills Olimpia . . . and a 2-1 Olimpia win ONLY ensures a risky PK round where anything can happen . . . Tigre's mindset has to be score an early goal . . . and when that happens . . .all heck should break loose . . . hopefully including a Tigre red card.
